Week 1: Oakland Raiders vs. Denver Broncos

After a long offseason of lockouts and drama, the Broncos home opener is just a few days away. And what better a way to kickoff the 2011 season than doing it on Monday Night in front of the entire nation? The Broncos will hosted the Raiders at 10:15 PM ET and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.

I think we had all hoped that Tim Tebow would be starting, but we’ll just have to continue to cheer for him as a backup for now. There’s a very strong chance that Tebow will still get to play a situational role / wildcat stuff – so we’ll have to see what the coaches have in store for him once the game starts. As a backup, you have to be 100% prepared to step in at any time. No one predicted Orton’s injury last year, but Tebow was ready and filled in nicely as a starter for 3 games.

Both Tebow and Quinn are listed as the #2 QB on the Broncos Depth Chart.

For the game, I’m going to predict a Broncos win – even though the Raiders beat Denver twice last year – by a score of 21-17. I think Tim will get on the field for two plays, one of which he’ll be a decoy or hand the ball off, and another he’ll throw a 7 yard out. Just my prediction :-)

What do you think? Will Tim get on the field Monday night?

Let’s hope we see Tim play a important role on Monday night. It will be interesting to see if the Broncos have improved as much as they think, the first team defense looks greatly improved over last year. It’ll also be interesting to see how willing John Fox is to make a QB change if Orton fails to get the job done. Last year it took a new coach, and a 3-10 start to make that change. I hope Tim is the go-to guy in the red zone where he really excels. I hope they don’t work him into some version of the wildcat offense, which really isn’t where his talents will shine. My opinion anyway.

The Broncos don’t have to start or play Tim extensively in every game. Just the games they want to win. :)

My morning newspaper states that the Broncos are favored to win tonights game.

    Go Broncos!
