Tebow Leads Game Winning Drive Over Seattle

As promised, Tim Tebow saw a lot of playing time in Saturday’s preseason game against the Seahawks. Tim came in with 5:40 left in the third quarter and finished out the game. The Broncos were up 17-3 when Tebow came in and quickly gave up a pair of touchdowns. The game was tied with 1:16 left in regulation… the Broncos go the ball on their own 23. Tim had a 19 yard scramble on the first play of the series and followed it up with a 26 yard screen pass. A few plays later the Broncos kicked the game winning field goal.

Coach Fox said “they may not be the most beautiful plays, but he [Tebow] gets the job done.”

Fast forward to 1min 20 sec in this video below for a recap of the final series.

Tebow had an ok outing on Saturday, but it wasn’t spectacular — which I thought he needed to be to secure the #2 spot. He was 6-11 for 93 yards and failed to throw a touchdown pass. He also rushed the ball 4 times for 25 yards. Like I said, it was an ok game … but I really wanted to see him light it up.

I don’t think 93 yards passing is chopped liver for a little over a quarter’s play…not to mention he’s playing with the second string offense (hence the sacks). I thought they were going to split the playing time and give him even more reps.

Odds are they did that with the sacks & how they came so he would face pressure up the middle at him so he could work on 3,5 & 7 step drops with strong pressure in his face. Really it means they’re put’n some more trust in him with that. Remember pre season is all about set’n your roster & see’n what you have & how it will work for what you plan to do, its not really about winning. He did pretty good & why fox said it wasn’t pretty was the having to make something happen, pro coaches all like the called play ran close to perfect because when it is its hard to stop & in the NFL the broken play turns out bad more times than not is all. I don’t think fox is unhappy with his performance, maybe the extra effort that that allowed the defenders to hold him up so the ball could be stripped out & the moves of the defence when the snap got dropped. All & all not too bad at all. Little more pocket awareness.

I’m with you Jason. Ain’t nobody gonna light it up with the 2nd string. Orton couldn’t showcase his somewhat limited talents with a second string offense either. We won’t get to see what T.T. can do until he is allowed to play a quarter or two with the starters.

I turned the game off with 3 minutes to play, very frustrated about what seemed a night where Tebow had been given only garbage time, and where he had not especially distinguished himself.

Later, I heard about this drive. Leave it to Tebow to make lemonade. (Congrats to Lance Ball, too, and the guy who made that awesome block, not to mention the kicker, Hoekstra). During his short NFL career, Tebow has already shown that when given a “game on the line” scenario, he’ll respond. I wish well to Orton, Quinn and the rest of the Broncos, but I’m confident Tim is the QB who can make the most of this season, if given opportunity.

Well said Sage. Just wait until he replaces Orton due to his nonplus performance when it counts. Understand how frustrating it can be when the answer to the Bronco’s is given less than 1st string quality reps and etc.!! Orton has had his chance and bombed. More of the same is not going to fix anything!!! Wish there were nicer things to say about Orton only it is not pleasant to watch him throw away any chance of winning games for the Bronco’s Organization and I think management is aware of this b/c they were all set to trade and he even botched that!!!! GBX2/TEBOW/GATORS

Tim doesn’t get the credit he deserves for his performances last year, and this year. In each of the three pre season games this year he has made something happen. That’s his strength. He’s a play maker… a clutch player. Even in the second pre season game, when he was only in for two series, he only went one for two passing but that’s not enough pass attempts to mean anything; on the other hand, the rest of the plays were running, and the running backs got nowhere, but with our backs up agains our own end zone Tebow converted on third and six, and did so with enough to spare that he could slide in feet first and avoid the hit. Even in that short play time in game two, Tebow made things happen. he just needs play time, and the sooner he starts, the sooner he develops into the star he clearly has the potential to be. As a Bronco fan, I sure hope they don’t trade him, but instead either start him this year, or give him plenty of play time.

One thing about Kyle Orton: I had been expressing respect for his play and feeling that he has earned his shot at starting the season, making Tebow have to fight to win it from him, which I’m fine with. But today, on Denver radio, I heard for the first time that apparently Orton has been dissing Tebow, walking away and rebuffing him when Tebow walks up to talk, ignoring him when Tebow asks questions; and if this is true, Orton deserves none of my respect and needs to go. I don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve now heard it from a few sources.

Nathan – ya…that’s pretty much been the knock on Orton; he “does what he has to do with the media” but he’s not open in that sense at all. When we were at training camp he walked away from Tebow; there was no interaction at all- while others were warm/open to Tebow. He’s definitely been dealt a tough hand- but he’s acting like a petulant child. Good riddance

  9. jason says:

KC orton won the starting job & odds are fox would like tebow as his QB because fox doesn’t wanna light the world up passing, that’s not his style, he wants a QB that throws 20-25 passes a game & have some soild backs & strong defense. How’s the defense for denver look right now. Word had been said that the vets of the team don’t think tebow is ready for them to win now & he’s the future for denver so fox is kinda gonna go for him learning cause this is tebows first year with his system. That’s tough to go from pass happy guy with jeff last year to the strong defense & much stronger run game pass when you need to style that fox has always liked. Your talking about a guy like matt ryan coming from pro set in college, tebow came from spread & its gonna take him more time just like it does every spread QB from college. No one can expect guy from spread being ready day one where guys like matt ryan from pro set for 4 years in college can walk straight on. Tebow had face a playbook that he only dealt with 10% of in his life, that other 90% takes time. A guy like matt ryan saw close to the whole playbooks for the nfl when in college & tebow didn’t & really this is tebows 1st year because of coaching change, just hope it doesn’t happen again in the next 2 cause that destroys QBs badly. Its like changing majors in school every year & think you can finish in 4 still. Take care folks!

  10. Nathan says:

I agree. Coming from a spread to the NFL has its challenges. Again, tim just needs playing time, for development purposes, and the sooner he gets that the better as far as I’m cocerned.

I mentioned how in this year’s second pre season game he made things happen; well, in the first pre season game he went something like 6 for 7 completions, the interception was under serious pressure, but he also scrambled for a TD, which like the interception was called back for penalties, but regardless, pretty good numbers and a running TD called back for something not his fault. Again, he makes things happen. And in this last, third, pre season game, he did reasonably well, including a 19 yard scramble for a first down, a number of great passes, and in the last series with about 1 min 20 seconds left, he moved the team down the field and set us up for a fieldgoal to win. Again, he makes things happen… and he will even more so once he gets significant playing time.

My concern about Orton is that he doesn’t, or at least hasn’t made things happen. He had good personal numbers last season while moving down the field, but faded off in the red zone and at other times when it really mattered. he has not been a player who makes things happen. Now, so far this year, he’s showing some consistency again, but will that show up in touch downs and wins. I have my concerns. If he does, then he’ll remain the starter. If he doesn’t, then as the season progresses there will be more calls for Tebow. Either way, I hope Fox finds uses for Tebow so he can contribute and can develop. Tim is Denver’s future, and the sooner we get on with that the better!

    WAY TO GO TEBOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tim could play any position. What they need to do is to get Orton out. Gosh, I wish they would trade Tim, so he would get a chance. Look at the Lions, and Tim was a better quarterback.
