Could The Broncos Trade Tim Tebow?

Do you think the Denver Broncos will go into the season with 3 high-profile QBs on the roster? It’s a done deal that Orton is the starter, and by the looks of it Quinn will be the backup. Unless the Broncos plan to convert Tim to a running back, then they really don’t need him on the team anymore. He’s too polarizing with the fans to keep as the 3rd string QB. Could they trade him before the season starts?

Kevin, over at the Phinsider, makes a case for the the Dolphins to trade for Tim Tebow. The Dolphins are really the only team I can think of that would trade for Tim — maybe the Bills or 49ers.

I think all of us would support a trade if it meant Tebow would be the starter somewhere. Unfortunately, it would take weeks for Tim to learn a new system so even if he was traded today he wouldn’t be ready in time for the opener.

Would you support a trade if it meant Tim Tebow would still be a backup … just somewhere else? I think I would. I feel like he needs to get out of Denver. Boy all those fans in Denver who bought Tebow jerseys would be pissed!

As much as I hate to say it, I think Tim is in a career ending situation. All the “experts” declared he couldn’t make it in the NFL. His first year he not only played but had an excellent QB rating for the time he played. He had a better rating this year at the start than any of the other QBs in Denver but still ended up being bashed in every media outlet. After a while people believe what they are told if it come through the TV set, I could sight dozens of examples. Add to the media negativity a coaching staff that has chosen to go with the same average quality QB they’ve had for years and there’s not much room for him in Denver. Because of the time constraints you mentioned in your pose I believe it would be impossible for any team to see his potential and trade for him at this point. Without a major miracle he’s done.

  2. Pastor Bill says:

I think we all can see that things are tough right now for Tim, but lets try to keep things in perspective. Sometimes God’s will isn’t what we would like it to be but we still have to persevere. As of right now, Tim Tebow is an employee of the Denver Broncos. He signed a contract and by the way he’s making a lot of money, and his job is to help his team, the Broncos, as much as he can. I sincerely hope he isn’t whining and complaining to management that they need to trade him or give him more playing time, because that worldly “me first” attitude does NOT help the team, it would be a huge distraction. I would expect it from most other athletes, but not Tim. I think he’s a better Christian than that. But none of us are perfect, not even Tim, and right now I’m praying for God to give him the strength to persevere instead of quitting on his team.

And if he is traded, I will then root for the team he is traded to. But until then, go Broncos! I am also praying for “the Johns” (Elway and Fox) that God grants them the wisdom to appreciate the special player they have in Tim, and to utilize him properly. If they’ll just take off their blinders, I have the feeling he won’t be sitting on the bench for very long. But for now that’s where he is, and he needs to stay the course and allow God’s plan to unfold, whatever it may be.

  3. kim says:

hope he gets to play more if that means to be traded from the broncos if someone gives him a shot to play they are not going to be sorry.the bronos need to let him play more so he show them what he an do more than a series here and their they are not letting him play the same amount of tim as they did quinn and thats stupid .give him the same amount of time they gave quinn saturday and tim will be wonderful just as the rest of the qbs.

  4. robertro2 says:

the QB is the start of a team but if you do not have players on the team to help him move up the field what good is he or the best QB….what should happen the owners of the team should be looking at the make up of there coaching staff and ask them why they do not have players there to help him…lets start by getting new coaches, and if this does not happen then release him to a team that wants to play for a win….

  5. Sir Leonard says:

To the Denver Broncos: Want to honestly and fairly satisfy the Denver Broncos football fans, me and others? I’ll tell you how, let Tim Tebow play quarterback the entire third preseason game. Since the game is meaningless anyway, you have nothing to lose but the game. This way, you can really find out what type of potential NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is going to be. This move would silent the sports media, satisfy the fans curiosity and make my long time wish come true.

  6. Robert Glenn says:

Tim first game this year 6/7 and a positive run darn good.

Second game, is Denver kidding does ANYBODY think Tim was treated in a fair way???I think not.

If the front office will not give Tim a fair shot. My guess is that there is a team out there right now that would go all in with Tim. The kind of player Tim is you get the most out of him when he is all in.

I hope Tim keeps his head up. Tim you may not read this but just in case PROVE THEM WRONG show them the winner you are.

You never gave up now is not the time.

  7. John O'C says:

There has been enough shit talked on blogs, comments and petty fights on youtube videos and reasons X, Y and Z that he’s not good enough because of this, or the other side saying he’s going to be great because of that. I’m sure just about everyone is sick of hearing about Tim Tebow; how shit he is or how great he is..

People out there hate Tebow and would love to see him fail. Their opinions won’t be changed by comments or internet articles.

It’s time for those who believe to sit patiently and wait for Tebow to deliver. Let the haters hate, keep talking and fueling the fire, not that Tebow needs fuel. He’s driven by the will to win not to prove people wrong. He’s got too much class and is too damn determined to care what others have to say.

what about heart, spine and resiliency? like Tom Brady when he started out, Tim is being doubted but for the complete opposite reasons. I’m not trying to draw comparisons between the two; all i’m saying is I think it will be great when Tim truly succeeds and people realise it’s not about being perfect and there is no model NFL QB. People can focus on whatever flaws they want, be it flawed mechanics / lack of great physical stature and strength, but when it comes down to it have you got what it takes within yourself.

  8. Brooke says:

    John O’C: Totally agree.

Everyone else: It’s only the 2nd preseason game-a lot can still happen. Remember, Tebow didn’t play at all in even the 1st regular season game last year, yet he ended the season playing the final 3 games.

Both Orton & Brady are in the final year of their contracts. So it makes sense that Broncos management would want to see them as much as possible to assess whether they’re worth re-signing or if they should try to get some value out of them by trading them. They also want to show them off to other teams for possible trades.

As someone noted earlier, the starting job was Tim’s to lose this year. Because he got back into bad habits while practicing on his own during the lockout, he lost it. But he’s been steadily improving throughout camp & will continue to improve. The Broncos suits were willing to have Tim be their starter less than a month ago, so it’s unlikely they have absolutely no faith in him at all.

Ideally, I’d like Tim to stay-& ultimately have success-in Denver. But if that isn’t possible then I’d like him to end up w/Belichick, b/c he’s smart enough to know how to get the most out of Tim.

  9. Tisa says:

This whole situation makes me sick to my stomach!!! Brooke, I would agree with you but, when I read the practice blogs on the Bronco website, it seems they are doing less and less with Timmy every day. I think they have the potential to ruin his career. Timmy has gotten caught up in a messy situation that has been going on for quite some time. I can envision Elway and Fox at each other’s throats when the losing starts. I don’t see any real difference in Orton from last preseason to this one, so I don’t think the team is going to do all that well. I certaily don’t see how they are really giving Timmy a chance to improve and once the season starts that will be it. The Denver press is even saying that the Bronco front office actually thinks Adam Weber is better than Timmy. As I said- This all just makes me sick!!!

  10. David Fostor says:

I think the haters have totally overplayed their hand with today’s diatribe by the bozo on Yahoo Sports. To even think that Adam Weber is as good a QB as Tim Tebow is ridiculous. For that matter, the same applies to Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn, who have nice throwing motions, but are not better passers than Tebow and have no running or leadership abilities. Perhaps it’s time to declare the John Fox / John Elway ‘experiment’ an abject failure. The Broncos have treated every QB like crap since Elway’s departure over a decade ago. Remember how Brian Greasy, Jake Plummer, Bradlee Van Pelt, and Jay Cutler were all treated by the management of the Broncos. This is a sick organization that idolizes Pat Bowlen and John Elway based on something that happened in the late 1990′s. The Denver media is no better, jumping on the bandwagon to destroy a young man whose major fault is his integrity and hard work.
This town is a cesspool and Tim Tebow deserves better–here or somewhere else. The regular season will bring this arrogant bunch to their knees and expose their mindless approach to the greatest QB in history.

  11. John B. says:

Apparently Tebow lost the starting job, and was demoted to third string because of his game-best performance in the first pre-season game. Orton, who was the worst, ‘earned’ the starting job based on the same standard.
    Talk about dysfunctional!

  12. Vera says:

Yes, I would support a trade for Tim in Miami. I’d love to see him back in Florida. I think he is getting a bad deal in Denver.

If he remains in Denver, they may find they need him in the red zone where Orton seems to fail.

  13. jason says:

The bills QB is better for what they do than tebow would be so I doudt the bills would want him. I know that people who are fans of something don’t like when people who really know the business they’re talking about & work in it but its exactly what the top guys said when he came out. Tebows release time & wind up are bad even improved its not good for pro football. This is the problem with fans if we put tebow in some other jersey that didn’t have his name on it & the crowd didn’t know it was him they’d boo him off the field. Fans don’t get what it takes for being a pro QB that goes out & wins super bowls. Cold logical planned & execution of the plan is what matters & what those guys who win do, not wearing the emotions on a sleave. Orton is a better QB at this point than tebow but being how fans are they cut their brains off over sports. Even urban meyer has said this & has said tebow is not doing well & anyone who is so emotionaly invested can see this also but not fans. I hope he can do something cause I want everyone to do well but tebow has not gotten better because he falls right back to the college mentality when something goes wrong and that doesn’t win title after title in the NFL because 1 or 2 out of those plays out of 25 or 30 really works right in the NFL, watch the NFL games & watch when plays breakdown, they fail 90% or more of the time. The broncos players don’t want tebow starting but I geuss they don’t know as much about the team & the game than all the fans do. Please explain how the people watching the team somehow know much more about the broncos than all the players do?

  14. jason says:

As far tebow being with belichick I don’t think any of you would want that because it won’t be as QB. If belichick really had wanted tebow he’d have got him & there’s no chance for tebow to beat out brady to start. Every real expert, not the ones on tv know that & tebow knows that. It would be as back up maybe for years on end. Brady is beloved by mr. Kraft as well as belichick & brady has a work ethic that’s like tebow’s & brady kept his starting spot after drew was healed up because one of the smartest minds in the history of the NFL called belichick saw this after 2 games & look what he’s gone on to do.
I have no favorite teams so its nothing to do with that in what I’m say’n here. The people who know the most about football & aren’t attached to a team & therefore every view point they have is very bias like fans will tell you the best head coach in the league & it isn’t close is belichick. Belichick said long ago what he’d look at doing with tebow & that wasn’t him being a starting or back up QB.
College does not translate into pro directly for the QB. I’d bet most of you think tebow has more upside & potential as nfl QB as andrew luck. That’s the problem fans have they’ll overlook everything to see only what they want to see cause everyone here I bet thinks andrew luck doesn’t have better skill sets than tim tebow don’t you but every single talent scout who has their jobs on the line where no fans do if they’re wrong sees this all day long. Its ok to be a fan of someone & pull for them but to think that its everyone elses fault that tebow isn’t the starter & the best QB the broncos have is silly & ofcourse elway has no idea if a QB has the right skills need to be a QB in the NFL from watching him. I love football, I’ve watched college & pro since I was a kid & watch as many of the games as I can every week & love everything about the breakdown of games & how plays a designed & ran. In pro ball tebow doesn’t do it at a high level & the top 10 defenses will eat him up. He doesn’t check down well & look at what he was with the 26, 27, 60 rule. Look it up if you don’t know it because its a great bench mark that has a lot behind it in looking at QBs over the past 10-12 years.

  15. jason says:

The preseason games performance isn’t close to everything. Its how they run in practise & its never just about numbers. Its things like watching the WR that you’ll throw to. Running the play & not putting yourself in bad postions because something goes wrong. Its so many things that fans always overlook. What did someone say “the greatest QB in history” of college maybe but not pro footballwhich is different, very different & every player in it says its different so every player & coach must be wrong again cause the fans know more.
Say’n he’s the greatest ever? Really? You really think that? Then its obvious you love watching football but know very little about it. Montana, brady, manning, elway, big ben, brees & I could go on & on & on. You think tebow could be better than montana & brady? Then you don’t know much about football & please stop blame’n tebow’s short comings on everyone else. We all understand how much you like the guy & who can’t like the guy but that doesn’t make him a great NFL QB. Normally you have to have do things in the NFL to be a great or the greatest QB ever or great at all. So if belichick were coaching him & put him in the same place the broncos have as the 3rd QB then belichick would not know what he’s doing? Right. We all want tebow to do good but he’s not & that’s his fault not everyone else on earth.

  16. Robert Glenn says:

Hey Jason, dude you trying to get as many posts as possible to bash?

Seems like your the football expert…so how many great NFL QB’s were bad mouthed by anybody who would listen truned out to be a TOP QB.

Do you really think Tewbow was bad in PS game 1?

Do you think he had a fair shot in game 2? point of fact he would have been 2/2 if not for a great defense play on the WR.

If you want to bash keep going. I’m sure you and the other nay saying will be eating their words.

  17. Brooke says:

Today Joe Montana said Tebow shouldn’t change his throwing motion:

    http://www.danpatrick.com/2011/08/24/joe-montana-dont-try-to-change-tim-tebows-style/

  18. jason says:

I’m not bashing tebow, I hope he does do good. I have no reason to bash the kid it doesn’t affect my life what any player does. My point is that with his fans nothing he does seems to be his fault. For what the team wants & what hits the highest level of QB ability tebow doesn’t have yet. As a team you can’t just say go out & play no matter what cause we know you’re the best we have, he hasn’t proven that yet in the eyes of the team. He will improve if given the chance to I have no doudt of that but its not everyone else that’s on the team thinking he’s not ready for what they wants fault tebow is where he is.
I have nothing againist him I do have issue with fans see’n him as so great when he hasn’t shown that yet. 3, 4, 5 & so on games does show that someones great. He needs a full season after he has gotten everything down & the off season really hurt him. The only real big agreement I have with the best experts other than the obviuos of how he throws & reads with check downs is the too eager to make something happen because in the NFL 90% of the time that ends up bad. The one you see on sports center is the 1 out of 10 that wasn’t an interception or loss of yards. (Talking all players not just him).
He has so much further to go to be a real true count on to run the gameplan & plays right starter is my only point really & his fans don’t see that when everyone else that really knows football does even tim knows this & his teammates know this with the broncos. He has a lot of work to do before that. That’s the point, none of us knows how great he’ll be. Its doudtful he’l surpass brady, montana & the like cause those are rare collections of ready talent when they left college with the right type of skill sets to make it more likely to do what they did in the nfl. It doesn’t matter how hard you work at something if the way your doing it is wrong. Tebow worked hard all off season but it didn’t help him because he reverts. He does that in games to & it will cost him.
As I said I hope he does get really good just like I do for every player cause that makes better football for me to watch & no word eating ever cause tebow being great or not affects you & me the same way, not at all cause all we do is watch. I don’t own a NFL team so its no matter at all to me or any of you cause were not part of it. Its just with some players people take it so personal when its not personal cause you don’t even know the kid.

  19. Brooke says:

Jason: I agree w/your basic point that Tim’s simply not ready yet. He still does have a lot to learn. I’d rather he be a 3rd string while working out his issues than starting & failing (& possibly even getting seriously injured).

And thank you for being one of the few Tebow skeptics that’s posted on here who’s actually just a skeptic & not a hater.

I just think it’s waaay too early for anyone to predict that he’s either going to be awful or great. But, of course, people have been doing that since even before he graduated. I wish everyone-both pro & con-would look at things a little more objectively. But that’s not going to happen anytime soon.

  20. jason says:

That’s great that montana thinks that & maybe it will work out fine for tebow but to put it as tebow is the best QB the broncos have isn’t true, why wouldn’t the broncos start him if he was? Like I said he’s not a top great QB in pro football yet & he’s not the worst ever. We don’t know yet what he’ll be able to do. Maybe it will work for him maybe it won’t but its not everyone elses fault when he screws up on plays which he does tend to do. I want to see a lot more so we’ll know what he really looks to be because college does not translate to pro regaurdless of how people feel about it.
Tebow can win with what he does but can he be truly great & win super bowls? No one knows that yet. No one, because it hasn’t happened yet. I don’t like the people who are hell bent on see’n his down fall cause they should wait too & see what happens but to think he’s the best talent coming from college to that postion is just as bad cause he’s not. Every team wants to win & if the people in the pros thinks that he can he’ll get his time & we’ll all find out at the same time if he is what people hope he is. I understand the cult of personality that surrounds him & how much you guys like him & that’s cool but on every side let’s wait to see what happens before crowning him as a great NFL QB. We may have 5 or 6 play’n right now & he’s not close to them yet.

  21. Brooke says:

I agree: We need to wait & see.

  22. jason says:

Thank you brooke & in time we’ll see what he can do the same time he does. There’s no reason for anyone to dislike the kid, he’s a great guy & if he can or can’t won’t matter so long as he does the best he can. Its so hard to really know who will be great in the nfl & who won’t & you never know. Tom brady 199 in the draft & manning 1st & who’s better the wrap up of the career will tell & with bias on every side. I saw a small experiment done once where all names where removed & then the anger some fans had when they picked who was better than who. So much bias by fans will always exsits in sports, think of what flordia fans would say about tebow if he went to florida st? He’d still be great but not in the minds of plenty. I have no horse in any race I just love football & opinions for & againist everything will never ended. Take care folks!

  23. Brooke says:

    You too, Jason. :)

  24. Vera says:

I enjoyed an article on the site Gatorsports.com titled, Is Tebow Ready to Play? The article is from The Associated Press.

  25. Brooke says:

Thank you for mentioning that article, Vera. It’s more detailed than most &, overall, quite fair.

  26. David Fostor says:

During the Steelers – Eagles pre-season game, Terry Bradshaw also said that people in Denver should leave Tebow alone with regard to his throwing motion and not try to fix what isn’t broken. He said that Tim would do just fine in the NFL. When looking at the statistics, both college and pro, it’s pretty easy to see that Tebow has what it takes to make it in the NFL. If it’s true that numbers don’t lie, then it must be true that people do lie. In our house we want to see Tim continue to do well and we wish him and his family all the best.

  27. Tisa says:

This business about Tebow’s throwing motion is what concerns me. Bradshaw and Montana are not the only ones saying to leave it alone. I have a gut feeling that trying to change him is what has him stymied. God Bless him, he doesn’t deserve all this hate!

  28. UF-Chuck says:

Good analysis Robert, and good follow-up Jason. Nice to see objective thinking, and not overly expectations. Have been following Tim for quite a few years now. Was so impressed when he decided to finish school @ UF, rather than enter the draft earlier. Kind of like what General MaCarthur said: “It takes a good grade of steel to make a good knife”, Tim has what it takes and WILL make it big in whatever he does, and any team in the NFL will advance with him

I was in a Panama City Beach sports bar when Tim made that 40 yard scoring scramble last fall, and the place erupted!! Can’t wait for more exciting, passioned football.

  29. JayB says:

I haven’t been too informed when it comes to 1st round picks becoming 3rd string QB’s but I highly doubt that the Broncos will “work” with Tebow. Elway is obviously lying through his teeth. If Tim is to have any chance to develop as a QB, it will not be at Denver. McDaniels liked him and saw Tebow as the workhorse that he is but now that there has been a change of command the new people in charge are looking for a way to get rid of Tebow. Please Denver, keep Ortin and Quinn lololol! Brady Quinn, really? And Orton is a real sad sack. The red zone is like Krytonite to this guy. Oh yeah, please close your yapper Boomer. Tebow has better stats in his rookie season than you did. Move on out of Denver Tim. It’s you only chance.

  30. Tracy Mickey says:

Hey, what if all of us “TIM TEBOW FANS” could show him our support by changing the TV channel when he is NOT the quarterback; or, chanting “TEBOW TIME” when he is NOT the quarterback; and then, CHEERING/ROARING EVEN LOUDER when he starts running out on the field to play. We, his fans, have to do something to show John Elway and the coaches who WE WANT to be our quarterback! TIM TEBOW BRINGS SO MUCH MORE TO THE BRONCOS, AND TO THE WHOLE CITY, THAN JUST AMAZING FOOTBALL TALENT!! Anyone can improve their football skills over time; BUT NOT EVERYONE IS A NATURAL-BORN LEADER! He brings so much EXCITEMENT TO THE GAME BECAUSE OF HIS PASSION AND DETERMINATION TO SUCCEED. HE IS SUCH A POSITIVE ROLE MODEL. HE IS SUCH A POSITIVE LEADER. HE IS SUCH A POSITIVE COMPETITOR. (He doesn’t pout or complain or bring any negativity to the organization!) HE IS SUCH A POSITIVE CONTRIBUTOR TO, not just the city of Denver, BUT TO OUR WHOLE STATE—TO MANY OTHER STATES, COUNTRIES AS WELL!! LOOK AT WHAT HE HAS, ALREADY, DONE TO HELP OUR CHILDREN, TEENS AND MANY ADULTS, TOO. LOOK AT WHAT HE HAS, ALREADY, DONE TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY. If they let him go, GOD DOES KNOW THAT THEY WILL BE MAKING A HUGE MISTAKE—ONE THEY WILL SOON REGRET!! THEY WILL HAVE SO MANY UPSET AND ANGRY FANS TO DEAL WITH!(NOT WITH TIM, BUT WITH THE COACHES AND ORGANIZATION!) I HAVE TALKED TO A LOT OF FAMILY MEMBERS, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS WHO DO NOT EVEN WANT TO WATCH THE GAME IF TIM IS NOT THE QUARTERBACK! WE LOVE YOU TIM. HANG IN THERE! WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT, WE JUST WANT WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU AND YOUR CAREER. IF THAT MEANS YOU HAVE TO LEAVE COLORADO, WE WILL JUST CONTINUE TO FOLLOW AND SUPPORT YOU AND WATCH YOU RISE TO THE VERY TOP! YOUR, CHRISTIAN, SUPPORTERS KNOW WHO IT IS WHO IS JUST TRYING TO ATTACK AND WEAKEN YOU BECAUSE he IS AFRAID OF THE OVERWHELMING AND POWERFUL IMPACT YOU WILL HAVE ON EVEN MORE MILLIONS OF LIVES, FOR GOD, WHEN YOU ARE GIVEN THE CHANCE TO HAVE THE STARTING POSITION!!! (YOU ARE STILL MAKING A POWERFUL AND INCREDIBLE DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD, FOR GOD, EVEN WITHOUT BEING THE STARTING QUARTERBACK!!!) YOU ARE TRULY A BLESSING TO US ALL!!

  31. ck says:

TEBOW WILL ALWAYS BE AND IS THE BEST AND WHY OTHERS ARE EASILY INTIMIDATED AS THEIR STANDARDS ARE NOT AS HIGH!!!!
    GBX2/TEBOW/GATORS

  32. chuck k says:

I hope Tim gets traded, so that he will have a chance to show everyone what he can do.

He will never get a chance with Denver.
