Playing the Waiting Game

It appears that the Kyle Orton trade to the Miami Dolphins has cooled off significantly – not sure any trade is going to go through now. Either Denver was asking too much or Miami couldn’t come to terms with offering Orton a long term deal after the trade. Who knows?

Now we have to play the waiting game. Tim Tebow will continue to workout in training camp with the second team offense (and mix in some time with the first team) until the Broncos can move Orton. Other than Miami, I’m not really sure where else he could land – it seems everyone has their QBs set now.

It’s a little frustrating though because all the players and coaches were on board with the trade – Brandon Lloyd saying “It’s Tebow Time.” So there will clearly be division in the locker room if the Broncos don’t do something quickly.

We’re in Day 2 of training camp so let’s see what happens.

Really upset about this. I have been following this story on the NFL Network and ESPN for a few days now all for nothing! I had a feeling that something like this would happen, but before posting this comment, I read an article from the Dolphins training camp that made my thought official. I still think that Tim Tebow is going to be the starter, but now that Orton is still in camp, it makes his chances slimmer. Not to the point of no hope, but still. Much slimmer. There is still the chance that Orton could be traded. It’s not likely though because all of the other teams in the NFL have their QB issues settled. He could also be dropped. I heard some of the analysts on the NFL network say that that is a distinct possibility. It’s Tebow time in Denver. That’s already been said. Who is Kyle Orton to stand in the way? Now, until the preseason, the title of this article describes it all. This is a waiting game.

I checked the blog on the Bronco website regarding today’s practice. It does not look like they are going to give Tim much of a chance to prove himself. It seems to be all Orton. I think the writing is on the wall. They are not going to trade Orton and he is going to be the starter. I am a Gator and I have followed Tim to the NFL as a fan and I am really saddened by this. From what I know of Orton and Quinn, they look good in practice and don’t have much presence on the field. But, if Tim does not get a lot of reps with the first string, he will not have a chance to really show himself until the preseason games. I have read that John Fox is a conservative coach that will always go with the veteran and I guess that is what he is going to do in this case. What is going to happen to Tim? I am so sad.

It’s too soon to panic, but it is discouraging to see the Broncos giving reps to 4 different quarterbacks. This, I am afraid, is the same club which refused to start Tebow until the third-to-last game last year, despite every incentive to do so much earlier. I was a Bronco fan for 34 years before I became a Tebow fan, but I can’t continue if they muff this chance to let Tebow grow into the job.

I like Tim Tebow and want him to do well. All of these comments seem to contradict what people who have watched practice say. He has clearly been the third best QB on the field. I am very disappointed to hear this but when you hear this from Al Williams and others who watch practice, these are the facts. Of course he will get a chance, they were trying to trade Orton for goodness sakes. When you start camp being worse than Brady Quinn and Orton is showing the poise needed in practice, of course he will lose some reps. Tebow needs to step it up. It may not be Tebow time yet, we shall see. I want him to succeed because there are so many life lessons in this. What we want and what is right now are not the same thing!!

Also this is the first place where I read about a potential division in the locker room. This coming from a site with Tebow’s name is not productive to harmony.

This is a site where Tebow fans come–very politely–to talk about Tebow. So, please don’t grieve us for that, Joe. Those who are concerned with balance can go to many other sites.

It does not appear the front office intended there to be 4 quarterbacks (including Orton) in camp at this point, and I won’t apologize for disliking it. Rather, they were unable to unload Orton and his $9M salary and playing demands. Now, we’re in nearly the same situation as last season, when we worked our way very disturbingly through a 3-and-10 record last year before the Broncos’ managed to get Tebow a start. I’m a Bronco fan first and foremost, but I will not be duped into continuing to imagine that Orton is the answer. It does not impress me that Orton, in his 7th training camp, can look smugly like the more experienced QB. I care about the Broncos future, and that means I’m ready to see Tim start. After he’s had a season to train with the first team and start games, then we’ll see whether or not he should continue in that role. Orton has already had 2x that opportunity, and shown me he shouldn’t continue in that role. I have no disrespect to Orton whatsoever. I admire his skills, but Tebow will outperform him in dynamism and leadership.

I hate to say it, but I agree w/Joe.
