FOX Sports just published a photo gallery of the Top 10 overhyped draft picks in NFL history – they have Tim Tebow ranked #2 on the list. It’s not necessarily a bust list, but when you look at the other players it sure does look like it. Some of the other names on the list include:
Tony Mandarich (#1)
Brian Bosworth
Matt Jones
Vernon Gholston
Ryan Leaf
In all fairness, yes, Tim Tebow was extremely hyped up before the NFL Draft last year. He was the hot topic of every show, every news article and every mock draft. He was a polarizing figure heading into the draft – no one new if he would be a star or a bust.
After only one year in the NFL I don’t know how anyone could call him a bust. He played quite well last year when given the opportunity to start, and even earned Rookie of the Week honors.
I don’t think it’s fair to call him overhyped just yet. What if Tim starts in 2011 and goes to the Pro Bowl 3 years in a row. He won’t be overhyped then will he? He will have lived up to the hype and his potential. The jury is still out on the kid and until he gets a chance to prove himself we just won’t know.
Tim “OUT AT DENVER” ??? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND, ERROR, WHAT MIND?? TEABOW WAS, IS, AND WILL BE A GREAT NFL QB !!! IF YOU ILL WISHERS, BAD NEWS SPREADERS, AND COLORODO THIN AIR HEADS CAN’T VISION THAT THEN YOU ARE BIGGER IDIOT’S THAN OLD-WORN OUT, NOT THAT GREAT [j.e.] WHATEVER HIS TITLE IS ??? TIM HAS WON STATE TITLES IN JACKSONVILLE FL.,-NATIONAL TITLES[2] & WAS THE FIRST EVER SOPHMORE TO WIN THE HEISEMEN WHILE AT U.F. & mr.elware likes oft injured ponder better- W T F-sorry for DENVER !! I HAVE ALWAYS CONSIDERED DENVER A CLASSIER CITY THAN JAX.BUT YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME WONDER !!! COME ON GUYS, jlg
I think he was “overhyped” from the standpoint of the negative comments about his passing. Now he’s overhyped because the media know if they write about Tebow it will get attention. I enjoy reading about what he is doing and what he actually has to say but I am sick of the negative speculation, mostly fueled by Elway, who, I think uses talking about the QB situation to draw attention to himself. I don’t see nearly this much conversation from other franchises about their QBs. Maybe they actually want their players to feel supported and part of the team.
Overhyped is not really a bad term. Overrated..sure but having hype is like saying a player has a spotlight on them. Players like Reggie Bush to me, are considered overhyped players. Bush was a great college RB, but he had a story that the media love to tell heading into the draft. Hype is a buzz word at best. I wouldn’t read too much into it, they’re just trying to create a “buzz” before the draft
