Former Carolina Panthers head coach was announced yesterday as the new head coach of the Denver Broncos. Fox took Carolina to the Super Bowl a few years back and is high respected in the NFL. Carolina has struggled lately, but many people put the blame on their GM and not Fox’s coaching ability.
Tim Tebow actually has a relationship already with John Fox — Carolina reported was interested in drafting Tim last year … and it’s said Fox actually liked Tebow better than Jimmy Clausen. “I had a great relationship with Coach Fox throughout the entire draft process and got to know him quite a bit,” Tebow said. “I’m very excited for him to be my head coach, and I’m looking forward to working with him.”
This is great news for Tebow, because he now has a defensive-minded / run oriented head coach taking over. A coach that will be open to Tim’s style of play and help him develop into a premier QB in the league. Fox has to be intrigued to have someone of Tim’s caliber on his team after never really having a QB with great potential in Carolina. “He’s got a lot of intangibles I look for,” Fox said of Tebow. “Where that goes it’s hard to predict.”
What do you think of the John Fox signing? Do you think he will be a good fit for Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos?
Now that Tim has a coach that is used to Tebow’s style of being a quarterback, in my opinion, now there is more of a chance that he will be the starter for the Broncos for most of next season. Now, just remember what Kyle Orton said. He said that he liked Tim but he also said that if he is going to be a part of the Broncos organization, then he wants to be the starter. Orton only has one year left on his contract. The choice for John Fox is whether he wants to get the best out of Kyle Orton in the final year of his Broncos contract or if he wants to hand the wheel over to Tim Tebow and let him carry the team for the 2011-2012 season. If you ask me, almost all doubts were cleared from peoples heads when Tim started the remaining three games of last season. Everyone was questioning whether or not he had the making to be an elite NFL quarterback. Now don’t get me wrong. Elite and good are two completely different things. Good is the ability to barely squeak by into the playoffs every other year. Elite is to make a deep run in the playoffs every year. We can’t determine Tim’s full capability of being a quarterback. Can he win games for whatever teams he plays for? Yes. He’s capable of that. Can he turn the Broncos from a 4-11 season to getting the Broncos at least close to a wild card spot next year? Yeah, probably. Can he turn the Broncos into an elite team like the Patriots or the Steelers? We can’t tell yet. It’s a risk that John Fox is going to have to take. You can’t determine whether or not someone is an elite quarterback just by having them start three games. But you can tell whether or not he is capable of winning. I fully have trust in Tebow and that if he becomes the starter for the next few years then he can turn the Broncos around. But the only thing that matters right now is whether or not the leader of the Denver football organization, John Fox, thinks so. It’s not like he has to rush his decision. He has the entire offseason until next July or August to make his decision. Now all we can do is sit back, wait for this year to expire and listen for further news from the Broncos organization.
