What if Josh McDaniels Started Tim Tebow?

Former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels was the main man behind drafting Tim Tebow in the first round. It was his call. Josh and Tim had a great relationship and a lot in common. It’s a shame McDaniels didn’t start him sooner or he might still be coaching the Broncos today.

Tebow is just 1-1 as a starter for the Broncos but he has shown that he has what it takes to be a starter in the NFL. In the last two games he has thrown for 446 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. He has also rushed the ball 95 yards and 2 touchdowns. It’s exactly the type of performance we expected. And I’m sure there were a ton of “experts” who thought Tebow would never throw for 300 yards in his career — well he did it in his second game.

So if McDaniels had started Tim in maybe Week 10 after their bye, would he still be the coach? Pro Football Talk posted an article about the same subject and included a quote from Brandon Llyod – the Broncos top WR.

“I think so because that was the pick that everybody was betting the house on and if that would have materialized early in a productive offensive manner where we could throw, we could run, he could throw, he could run, and then maybe if we didn’t win but we were close in games and hovering around .500 or something, I think he still woulda been here.”

When asked about Tim being a leader in the locker room as a rookie, Lloyd said:

“It’s not Tebow’s place to say anything to the team because he’s still a rookie. He’s a rookie, we are the veterans on the team, and our veterans speak. Brian Dawkins speaks… What I find funny about the whole Tebow thing is how well his passion has translated to the fans. We feel it as the players, but at the same time, he’s just another player to us. He’s not how the public views him and not how you guys view him as being the instant leader… There’s no animosity towards his popularity.”

If Tebow pans out (and I think he will), McDaniels will always be second guessing himself about the decisions he made in Denver.

I really believe that if mcdaniels would have started tebow then it would have definitely improvedthe performance of the team overall. Now would he still have a job? I cant answer that with me being 100 percent sure that my answer is true. We will never know. We only know that he got fired from his coaching job. We don’t know why he was fired. I myself believe that if he would have started tebow than there would be a good chance that he would still be part of the broncos organization.

McDaniels chose a winner in Tebow and then didn’t have enough sense to play him. Let him stay wherever he is. Tebow needs a Coach that trusts him and understands that he still has things to learn, but like other new QB’s this season, he can’t learn what he needs to sitting on the bench.
