The Denver Broncos were 6 points underdogs heading into Tennessee yesterday, but they ended up winning the game by 6 points with a final score of 26-20. Like the previous three games, they did it without the help of Tim Tebow – who although was promoted back to 2nd string… he did still not make it into the game. It’s frustrating for Tim Tebow fans to see their favorite player on the sideline, but on the other hand, Broncos fans have to be loving the way Orton is playing right now.
If the Broncos knew Orton was capable of this type of play they never would have drafted Tim, at least not in the first round. Some people are comparing this situation to Aaron Rodgers and how he had to sit on the bench for 2-3 years while waiting for Brett Favre to move on. The only thing different is Kyle Orton isn’t old yet – if he keeps playing like this the Broncos will give him a long term extension… leaving Tim’s situation up in the air.
For now, Tebow just needs to continue practicing his butt off and learning the system. He needs to be ready at any time for the ball. Guys get injured – we see it all the time. Just yesterday, Jay Cutler got a concussion and a 40 year old Todd Collins came in. Vick got injured and Kevin Kolb was given another chance to play. QBs go down all the time and it’s the job of the backup to be prepared for when that time comes.
If you’re looking for additional reading material I saw a couple articles on Bleacher Report about Tim Tebow and whether or not the Broncos made a mistake in drafting him and if the Broncos need Tim at all (or should they trade him).
Tim Tebow Was a Mistake
Do the Denver Broncos No Longer Need Tebow?
Tebow was active for this game. He was 2nd QB.

MS is correct…he was active as the #2 QB. Here’s the proof…

Could it be that Orton is doing so well because of Tebow sitting in the wings? The problem with analysing Tebow’s benefit to a team is the intangables he brings. I suspect that Tim has an affect on a team whether he is under center or not.
Orton had a better game with Tennessee although it was still a struggle in the end zone at the last possible minute. Broncos are #1 in the passing game of the NFL thanks to Orton and the top receivers (i.e., Royal, Thomas, and Gaffney, etc.)! Just think how much better they would have been in the end zone with TEBOW!! This team will only get better with Tim on the roster b/c he inspires everyone on his team to excellence! Don’t believe he has anything to worry about anytime soon as the coach is going to make sure he is ready to play at pro level…look what he has accomplished with other QBs!! Infact, they could have used Tebow on Saturday to help the Gators win against Alabama and avoid disappointment instead! Yea, we miss Tim on the Gator’s Team…LUCKY BRONCOS!!
GB2/GATORS/TEBOW
I bet this is the last situation Tim would have expected to find himself in when he was drafted…
