How many of you play fantasy football? A lot of you, I would imagine. With the preseason underway, most fantasy football drafts will be starting up this weekend and moving through the last weekend of the preseason. So where does Tim Tebow fall on the fantasy football draft boards? Well, that depends on what type of league you play in.
If you’re in a redraft league (meaning you pick an entire new team every year) then Tim Tebow is currently ranked around the 200th best player, or a 14th round pick.
Tim is not expected to make a big fantasy football impact early in the season. He may be the starter come November/December, but that doesn’t help fantasy players at all. In a redraft league, you’re picking Tim Tebow late as a flyer on the off chance that he might get thrown into the starting lineup earlier than expected.
If you’re in a keeper league then it will vary – how many keepers do you pick each year? What do you have to give up to keep a player? In a keeper league format you could see Tim Tebow go anywhere in the draft. Some leagues keep 10 players with no penalty, so you potentially could pick Tim Tebow in the first round and hold his rights for several years.
In my league, we can keep two players – but you have to give up a draft pick two rounds ahead of where the player was selected the year prior. I’m expecting someone to pick Tim in rounds 7-8 in my league that way if the owner wants to keep Tim for 2011 then he will only have to give up a 5th or 6th round pick in the 2011 fantasy football draft.
