I know you all saw Tim Tebow take a pretty big blow to the ribs on his touchdown run in the final seconds of the Broncos’ first preseason game. His teammates kind of held him up after the score so it didn’t look like anything too serious, but it’s been enough to keep Tim out of practice two days in a row now.

Coach Josh McDaniels isn’t saying whether Tebow is in or out when the Detroit Lions visit Invesco Field this weekend, but he is adamant that Tebow doesn’t have to abandon his reckless abandon. Tim was known as a running quarterback in college – and in fact, he was the one knocking linebacks to the ground. It’s a fferent game in the NFL. Everyone is bigger, faster and stronger.

Here’s what Coach McDaniels had to say about the play.

“To judge him on what happened the other night in terms of being reckless I would say is very unfair,” McDaniels said. “What he did the other night I hope all of our guys would have done, no matter who it was. Yeah, it’s part of his game. But I’m sure he’ll learn either the easy way or the hard way that you want to stay in this league as long as you can and we’ll help him do that.”

“Had he not tried to get it in on the last play of the game, I’m sure that would have been a bigger story,” McDaniels said Thursday. “So, no. If it’s the first quarter and you get a first down on the scramble, yeah, you try to preserve your body. I think that’s the smartest thing to do. He hasn’t been in that situation yet.”

We’ll see how Tim is feeling, but I doubt he’s going to play vs. Detroit … if he does it won’t be much at all.
