Will Tim Tebow Hold Out?

Denver Broncos training camp starts next Wednesday, July 28th and first round draft pick Tim Tebow has yet to sign a contract. In fact, only one first round pick has signed so far – Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys signed a deal for five years and $11.8 million, including $8.3 million guaranteed. Bryant was picked one spot ahead of Tim Tebow in the NFL Draft, so now the Broncos and Tim’s agent have something to work on. They will go for a deal that is very similar to Bryant’s, but just a little bit less in guaranteed money.

If Tim Tebow does not sign a contract by the start of training camp he will not be allowed to report to the Broncos facilities. It’s very important for rookie quarterbacks to be in camp from the start. Any time Tim misses could set his development back – just look at recent QB holdouts Jamarcus Russell, Matt Leinart, and Brady Quinn.

We know Tim Tebow wants to be in camp with his team. He wants to be out there playing ball and competing for playing time with the other quarterbacks. Contract negotiations are complicated and take time. It’s between the agent and the team… rookie players rarely ever get involved in anything contract related. It works on a loose slotting system. The agent will try to get his player just a little bit less than the player above him got, and more than they player below him.

Hopefully they can get something done this weekend and we’ll see Tim Tebow on the field Wednesday. Do you think Tim will hold out? Post a comment and let us know.

I think that now that Bryant is signed, and Timmy has said all along he doesn’t care about the money, that Timmy will probably sign for around $11 million with give or take $8 million guaranteed this weekend. I read that the Broncos would prefer rookies report to camp on Monday, that gives both sides incentive to get something done by tomorrow night. I knew Timmy in college and he isn’t the Jamarcus Russell or Michael Crabtree type who will hold out for a large amount of money. He just wants to play football. A large amount of the money from his deal will be donated to charity and used for missionary work anyway, he knows that in that business, any amount of money is better than no money at all.

He’ll sign tuesday. he’s not the holding out type

  3. Fovich says:

No way he holds out, he has too much integrity and will not miss training camp.

  4. John R. Hunt says:

Tim will sign! He wants to play football and will be the greatest QB of all time for the Broncos!! I can’t wait to see him take his first pro snap.

As of this morning, only 1 other player from the 1st Round has signed. So Tim’s hardly showing diva behavior here. Apparently this year last minute signings are going to be the norm. Something weird would have to happen for Tim to be a hold-out. He wants to play.

    Wait… Tebow’s a holdout? Guess he won’t use 1 Peter 2:18-20 on the Bronco’s eyeblack, huh?

  7. Mike says:

im pretty sure Tim wont sign with the Broncos until 1 day before training camp, but thats just what I think so lets see how it goes out.
