When John Elway was drafted into the NFL in 1983, he refused to play for the Baltimore Colts. He threatened to go play baseball instead. The Colts were left no choice but to trade Elway to the Broncos. Tebow is not like Elway in this case, but he is like Elway in that they both share a special talent for baseball. Tim played baseball in highschool for Nease and was pretty good at it.
While he was in Memphis the past few weeks, Tim was not only working on his throwing motion but taking a few swings in BP with the local high school baseball team.
From the Memphis Commercial-Appeal:
“The kids were just awed by how far he hit the ball,” Sexton said. “The best thing about Tim is he thinks he’s just another guy and acts that way. He’s oblivious to everything going on around him. He doesn’t think he’s a big deal. I asked him the other day how he stayed so humble, how come he didn’t get the big head compared to a lot of other athletes.”
“You have to decide what you have to be proud about, and being a football player doesn’t make you any more special than anybody else,” Tebow said. “Football gives me a platform and with that platform comes a responsibility and obligation to make a difference in people’s lives.”
ESPN has a video interview with coach Kyle Finney, where he talks about how Tim hit 12 of his 15 batting practice pitches out of the park.
Don’t get too excited though – baseball it not something Tim can fall back on if football doesn’t work out. He hasn’t played a competitive game in over 4 years. It’s just something fun to talk about.
Timmy knows how to do everything!
He is so determinded that I do believe he will achieve great accomplishment.
