Tim Tebow Invited to New York For NFL Draft

I have been reading reports all day that are saying Tim Tebow has been invited to New York for the NFL Draft – I haven’t seen anything from the Tebow camp confirming this, tough. You probably know that the NFL always invites a handful of guys to New York so they can walk across the stage and be there when a team calls their name.

Usually these are guys expected to go in the top 10 picks. However that is not always the case… Remember in 2007 when Brady Quinn was there and he kept falling and falling in the draft. The cameras were all over him in that little room just waiting for him to cry because no one was picking him. It was horrible. And there have been a ton of players that “experts” predict to go high but end up falling – Aaron Rodgers is another that comes to mind.

ESPN says that the NFL is upping the number of players invited to the NFL Draft from 9 to 18. They also hint that the NFL wants to bring Tim in for ratings, not because they expect him to be a high draft pick.

In my opinion, Tim will be a late first / early second round pick… so no, I don’t think he should go to New York and sit in that room for hours and hours while other people’s names are called. He should be at home with his family and friends watching on TV like 99% of the other prospects do. What is your take on this situation? Should Tim go to New York if he is invited?

“Should Tim go to New York if he is invited?”

Absolutely not. The NFL just wants to use him & the drama of when he’s going to get drafted as a ratings gimmick. He should show the world how serious he is about his improvement by being at the D1 facility in Tennessee continuing his training.

The one possible exception to this would be if a team has given him their promise that they’ll be drafting him in the 1st round. But the NFL isn’t nicknamed the National Felons League for nothing, so can they really be trusted? I don’t think so. I hope he goes to D1, not the draft.

No, I don’t think he should go to New York. I agree that they are just using him to raise their ratings. Tim should stay at home with his family and share this moment with them not on public display in New York.

I am not sure. I would love to see tim but if they are using him for commercial purposes the no

He should do whatever he wants. If he did go it could be a good and bad thing: if he’s picked he will be able to be there in person, but if not, I agree with Brooke they will just want to get his reaction on camera if he doesn’t.

After I posted my comment I realized that I didn’t say why I thought Tim shouldn’t go. Most analysts think he’ll be drafted in the 2nd round. Even if he’s drafted towards the end of the 1st, that means he’ll be sitting around for hours, w/the cameras on him whenever another QB or Gator is drafted, being interviewed occasionally about how he’s feeling about not being drafted, etc. It will be excruciating. And if he’s not chosen in the 1st round at all, that means he’ll go through everything I just mentioned, only to have to leave & come back for Day 2.
The upside of him going there is getting to pose w/the jersey. The downside is the misery I mentioned above. I really hope he doesn’t go & love the idea of him showing everyone how serious he is about improving by actually working out at either D1 or UF that day. If the guys working w/him aren’t available that day, then maybe he could take part in some charitable event, or visit a child in the hospital. ANYTHING but going to the draft on Day 1, unless a team has sworn to him that they will be drafting him in round 1.

Wanted to share my opinion (even though am not a Pro Scout)b/c I went to Pro Day and Tim Tebow fulfilled “The Promise” yet again…he is certainly A WINNER!! Not only did he zip bullets up and down the field, he had ALL the essentials regarding foot work!! Tim Tebow if you read this, know that YOU ARE A FIRST ROUND DRAFT PROSPECT!! Everyone and I mean EVERYONE was impressed watching him execute to Riley C., Aaron H. & Nelson!
You have never heard such cheering complete with a standing ovation for well over 30 min. every time he threw or anything he did!! Not only is he a pro already, TIM TEBOW IS THE BEST!!! Plus, he was right in front of where I was standing taking multiple pics and the highlight was getting to shake his hand (told him: “YOU’RE THE BEST, TIM!!);as well as having been asked for a camera shot by THE NFL NETWORK DUE TO BEING AN OVER EXUBERANT FAN TOO!! If anyone deserves a chance, he does and know this, that God is protecting him in all he does!
Was never an NFL fan and since I know he is going to the NFL recently purchased the NFL Network on cable TV! So, yes, I am glad that he is going to New York b/c we will all be watching A WINNER!! Thank God there is a Tim Tebow! As far as the critics go, “EMPTY VESSELS MAKE THE MOST NOISE”! Guess they feel so less than that they have to resort to verbal attacks since they couldn’t ever compete with, let alone ever try to do, all he has accomplished!! Truth stands the test of time and so will Tim T.!! Prayers and thoughts are with Tim Tebow and his wonderful family–ck
P.S. Will be getting my soon to be four-year-old GC a #15 Gator Football Shirt so that he has a positive role model to look up to!! Also, kudos to my husband who went to The Pro Day event which was really “The Tim Tebow Pro Day” as someone so aptly said. Definitely worth the over four hour trip and getting up really early for such an exciting/memorable time in spite of the weather…felt very fortunate to be able to go!

I think he should go! What an honor to be invited! As the best college player in history wanting to go to the next level, I am so glad he was invited- and not surprised. He will be just fine, even if he doesn’t get picked up right off the bat. He is a great all-around guy who is going to be supportive of all of the teams, players and decisions that they make. Plus, I want another chance to see him on t.v.–maybe they will even do the Tebow cam again :)

“Plus, I want another chance to see him on t.v.–maybe they will even do the Tebow cam again”

Yeah, they’ll be doing the Tebow cam again-they’ll be showing us every miserable second of his NOT getting drafted & asking him how it feels seeing other QBs & Gators getting drafted, instead of him. You really want him to have to go through that kind of public torture, & national ridicule by his haters, just so you can see him on tv?

  9. Shane says:

Tim Tebow is a pretty smart guy, and he can see that hes most likely not going to be taken in the first round. Even though he is a more accurate, more mobile, and has a better work ethic than the other QB prospects in the draft. As for should he go I say yes. It shows his confidence, which is something NFL players need to have, and hes almost definitely going to be picked up in the second round. I think he should go to support his old teammates if nothing else. Joe Haden and possibly Carlos Dunlap will be going first round and having more friends there is a plus.

  10. Teresa says:

I dont know how i feel part of me wants him to go so he will get the chance to take a picture with his jersey but if he dosent get picked first round then that wouldt be as bad because he has a lot to be proud of hes a great quaterback ….But the other part me of thinks he needs to be with his family for support and encouragement because if he does get picked he’ll be with his loved ones and if he dosent then they will be there for support but not matter what it will be huge!!!! Picked first round or not.

I’m sure if Tim goes to New York he will have his “posse” to use a term from another article with him, hopefully including his mother. Tim’s strong enough to handle whatever round he gets, he’s probably prepared for both scenarios, mentally.
