How often do we see highly rated college quarterbacks just completely suck when they reach to the NFL? Guys like Ryan Leaf, Akili Smith, Tim Couch, and Jamarcus Russell come to mind – all were extremely talented college players but something kept them from becoming good pros. Was it work ethic? Maybe. Were they throw into a bad situation? Probably.
It is very important for Tim Tebow to be drafted into a good situation for him to succeed in the NFL. I love Timmy just as much as anyone, but I think he needs to be put into a situation that allows him to learn under a solid veteran QB and a great coaching staff. If a team like the Raiders or Bills draft Tim Tebow and throw him into the fire on Day 1, I’m afraid he might not succeed.
Now don’t get me wrong. Tim has all the physical tools and intangibles (work ethic, leadership, etc) that will allow him to develop into a pro quarterback. But the keyword here is ‘develop.’ I think it will serve Tim much better to be drafted by a team like the Saints, Patriots, Colts or Seahawks – a team that has an established QB and won’t need Tebow to be the man from the moment he reaches mini camp. A team where Tebow can learn the game, work on his mechanics and be ready to step in 2-3 years from now as a starting QB.
As a Jaguar fan, part of me wants to see him here and part of me doesn’t. I think the pressure in Jacksonville of him having to save this franchise might be too much. But we’ll get into that another day. There’s plenty of time from now until the draft.
Tim Tebow is an anomaly – the NFL draft has never seen a player like this come in. It will be interesting to see what happens, but really I hope he gets drafted to a good team with great coaching.
I completley agree with you. I am a huge Tim Tebow fan, and I would hate to see such a talented player go to a suckish team. Also, I would like to thank “tebow fan” for making such a great website. This is where I come for my daily “Tebow news!”
I agree with you with going to a well established team and learning. I have said from about mid season that the vikings would be a great fit for him. Farve was brought in temporarily, but their quarterback situation still needs to be addressed for the long term. I know Percy Harvin has praised how much Farve has helped him in his first season in the pros.
I am a Jags fan as well and have been for years. I am also a Tim Tebow fan and I think he will have an impact wherever he goes. However, I dont think him going to Jacksonville will impliment a pressure to save the franchise.
My hunch is that he will be a Jaguar and will be thier first round pick…I have had season tickets for 5 years and this pick would make them that much cooler
tim has horrible mechanics. will not go before the 3rd round due to his horid senior bowl. he sucks ball sacks…
