Before the start of the 2009 season, Tim Tebow said his goal was to give Florida their first perfect season in history. Unfortunately, the Alabama Crimson Tide got in the way of that goal – the Florida Gators lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game tonight by a final score of 32-13. Tim Tebow did not play his best game, but we can’t say the Gators lost because of him. The defense played absolutely horrible and Alabama did a great job at keeping Tim Tebow and the Gator offense off the field.
Tim finished the game 20/35 for 246 yards and 1 touchdown, plus 63 yards on the ground. Tim also threw an interception. I’m not going to sit here and say Tim Tebow’s interception in the beginning of the fourth quarter cost the Gators the game, but it certainly put the nail in the coffin. Aaron Hernandez was wide open in the back of the end zone by 5 yards and Tebow completely underthrew him. The way the momentum was going, a score there might have brought the Gators back in the game.
The Gators were behind from the very first drive of the game. It’s not often in Tim Tebow’s career that he’s had to come from behind and unfortunately they just couldn’t do it. A couple of key drops by Gator receivers only added to the difficulty. Tim did make a few bad throws, he was throwing behind receivers all day.
Tim’s Eye Black for the SECCG was John 16:33 which reads – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
You can tell this loss absolutely crushed Tim. He was crying at the end of the game and during his interview at midfield. I’m sure it was very tough for him knowing the Gators let their fans down. Tim Tebow will have one final game as a Florida Gator sometime in January. They’ll get a BCS Bowl Game, but it won’t mean that much not being a National Championship Game. The Bowl game will be Tim’s final game as a Florida Gator – capping off arguably the greatest Gator career of all time.
If any of you want to send me your reactions to the SECCG, I’ll do my best to post them.
EDIT: I know the title of this post may be a little harsh and that a perfect season is a lot of pressure to put on a single player, but he did say before the season started that this was his goal.
Watching Tebow lose was the highlight of my day! Crying like a baby was the icing on the cake. Anyone who wears a reference to scripture under his eyes is an ass who should keep that crap to himself. He’s a dork, dumb and a hypocrite. A virgin? Are you kidding? Glad to see you lose Tebob. Not only did the Heisman evaporate but I bet the NFL just knocked you down to 3rd round. Bon voyage and good riddance.
It doesn’t really matter that Tebow didn’t deliver a perfect season (he’s not the ONLY player for Florida, you know… this loss was not necessarily HIS fault). He has had a wonderful career at Florida, and will continue to have a great career with whatever he chooses to do in his future.
Don’t hate Tim Tebow because he stands up for his faith and shares his scripture. He’s doing something that some wouldn’t even dare to do. And, for those who judge him based upon his character, you have no room to speak. He seems to be a good football player, and even a better person.
Look – Tim made some bad throws and he made some good ones. He played an average game. You can’t blame the loss on him, but on the other hand he didn’t do much to win it for us either. He did try to rally the defense on several occasions but it didn’t help. They still played like crap.
I almost cried when they kept showing tim in tears at the end of the game. I felt so bad for him
Tim Tebow will continue to be an influence off and on the field. The most important influence he has is on the lives of the young men who look to emulate him both as an athlete and as a man of outstanding character. Those who cannot respect a man of conviction have no convictions of their own that give them any satisfaction or sense of purpose. I’m a Kentucky basketball fan … not a football fan at all. I do, however, appreciate a solid sportsman/athlete/human being and Tim Tebow fills the bill in all those areas. Plus, I tremendously admire the way he lives his Christian convictions. Being 54 years old and away from church for a number of years, I’m returning. Thank you, Tim for your inspiration. May God continue to bless and keep you in His holy care.
Tim Tebow DID deliver a perfect season. He followed his Christian beliefs, played his personal best in each game, and the loss of the SEC championship does not alter the fact that Tebow delivered! I’m sure his family and teammates feel the same.
Tim Tebow is gonna be the biggest draft bust in the history of the NFL watching him cry like a little bby cant wait for everybody to relize he is putting up a fake image F##k Timmy
Football is a team game. Even though Tim Tebow is the leader and heart beat of this team the perfect season is a reflection of how the entire team played.
Unfortunately for Tim he was unable to win today but he does have two National Championships and a Heisman trophy under his belt as well as the admiration from virtually every college football fan in the country.
He had a great career, and although he wasn’t able to win today, he has done more for this team and college football than anyone else I have ever seen.
I wish him all the luck in his future in the NFL or whatever he decides to do with his life as he is not only a great football player but also, from all the accounts I have heard, a great human being.
Hold your head up high Tim, although the ultimate outcome of your efforts is what is remembered in the record books the actual effort you have will never be forgotten.
Read between the lines; a young man who has relentlessly stood up for his faith and not embarassed, (or hounded out)to profess the Lord and savior, JESUS CHRIST in this day and age and has accomplished so much both on and off the field. Thank GOD for an inspiraional player like Tim Tebow and may GOD continue to bless and encourage him to “fight the good fight, and run the good race”. May more athletes, entertainers, politicians, students, men and women from all walks in life have the courage to spread the word of JESUS CHRIST and the BIBLE around the planet.
GOD BLESS Y’all
Tim Tebow has been and will continue to be an inspiration to those who are not afraid to show their belief in God. He fought as hard as he could to reach a goal. This is all we ever can do in life. We should give all we have and the outcome is in God’s hands. He cried–good–he is human. No shame in crying. There is shame in cheating in a gameby taking steroids, in cheating on a wife, in torturing animals, and so on and so on and so on. I like another writer have been brought back to my faith at 56 by watching Tim’s selfishness and grit under the criticism he has taken during all these years. God bless you Tebow. You have given me more than just memories.
In all of this football mania somewhere there are some importnat lessons for U of F fans. Having been a fan of Bama Ball for 47 years, through the Bryant/Namath/Stabler/LeRoy Jordan/etc years, FLorida fans and coaches have acted like “nouveau riche” folks by their arrogance as they developed a stronger football program.Yes, they have finally made it into serious contention as a football power. But, to have just earned their first perfect regular season when programs like Alabam’s storied program with 30+ perfect regular seasons hardly puts them in the record books—yet! To put so much hype into one player like they did Tebow was not fair to the “teams” that have played so well in recent years. Alabama has no Heisman winner because they never “needed” a Heisman winner to claim 12 National Championships. Their “teams” have been that and quite a few are considered the “best” of the best college football has to offer.
Saaaaturday’s game, and Tebow crying like a petulant little boy who did not get his way, does not demonstrate emotion, it demonstrates an arrogance that they underestimated a very strong, physical, “team”.
It will be a good learning experience for all sports fans. Scripture or no scripture, winning is done by a group not one person or bible verse or cheerleading on the side. Shame on Florida fans and the media for putting so much emphasis on one person.
Yes, Tebow Can’t Deliver. Alabama is certainly a complete team..and has improved throughout the SEC season…especially with the poise and confidence of Greg McElroy. Alabama took the 2008 SEC loss and turned it into a positive learning experience. Tim Tebow has a lot of growing up to do….BIG BOYS DON’T CRY! You can’t win the BIG ONES with a “I can do this all by myself” attitude. Look at how ALABAMA handled themselves off and on the field before the game. No BS hype and no team member suspensions for a DUI. That comes from leadership at the top through its team captains. Kudos to the BAMA FAMILY…they deserve to be the #1 team in the Nation!
AND ONE MORE THING… I know that those who have been around the SEC for a few years ( And yes, I am a SEC alum from the mid-’60s ) can recall when the legendary Bear Bryant was thought to ‘walk on water.’ ‘Bama devotees still believe this is so. But there was never any religion or religious beliefs attached to this powerful story. That’s where it should remain. Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators should leave out their religion and ethnic content on the playing field. It’s actually repugnant to many Americans. Keep collegiate sport as a true sport and religion and religious beliefs separate. Amen.

I just want to say THANK YOU! for leading this team to victory and great seasons. You will always be a leader and not just a QB to me. I learned that if you stick with something, you can reach goals. You have inspired me to set very high goals and to have perserverance.
Thank you,
God Bless you, Tim Tebow and the entire Gator Nation.

Tim, I wish you would have told all the sports reporters to quit giving you so much praise…as a Christian I am glad that you raised up the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, but also in our Christian walk we are to prefer one another…in your interviews with the media, you very seldom gave any credit to your team.
In one of your interviews I believe you said that even the bad things that happen to us are from God. I do not agree with you on this. Bad things happen to us because of the choices we make, and this is true for Christians and non-Christians alike.
God bless you and your team.
Mary – You are 100% wrong and have no business spreading false info as though its fact. Tebow CONTINUOSLY credits his teammates and NEVER credits himself. There are countless videos on YouTube to prove this.
And get your quotes straight before you post them! What Tebow said was, “even when bad things happen, I believe it’s God’s will”.
How can someone proclaiming to be a Christian criticize what Tebow has done? Did even hear the speech he gave after the game? I dare you to find a better example of class, respect and humility!
Now go away!
Tim Tebow is a great player. That fact has made him hated by all of those who oppose the Florida Gators. And the fact that he is a devoted Christian makes him hated by all of those who oppose Christianity. that’s why everyone is beating up on him so much.
Okay.. I read all the comments, haters and all and it comes down to this. Those of you who criticize Tim Tebow really don’t know what he is all about and it is certainly not Tim Tebow. He always praises the other team, praises the other coaches, credits his team. This country just seems to love to see someone who is doing good be brought down temporarily. But to him, he was not brought down, not in the game of life where it really matters. Was he hurt ….sure. Was he full of emotion….sure. Was he disappointed…sure. Did he cry…so what? People who care passionately about what they do and what they believe in do have strong emotion. He has always felt a responsibility to his team and his fans. Did it ever occur to some of you that there are people who seroiusly feel bad when they can’t fulfill what they want to and promise to do.
To the person who said religious beliefs should be left off the field…that is what is wrong with this country today. People are afraid to stand up and be counted. He never has crammed it down anyones throat. He has his method of spreading the Gospel and is not ashamed to do it. Some people who don’t understand what Christianity is all about would not understand that but we are charged with spreading the Gospel and his eye black has done just that.
If you ever listened to any of his interviews you would know that he never has been all about Tim. I think the Media has done him an injustice but that is the Media. He personally has never asked for or really felt comfortable with all the hype. He is a young man who knows what he believes and does his best to live by that. He never asked to be put on a pedestal by anyone.
The one thing I don’t understand is why people feel they have to put others down or feel better when they do that. We all love our teams and have a right to do just that. Why can’t people just be proud of who they are and not seek to destroy others in the process. Alabama fans have all the reason to be proud today and everyday if they are true Alabama fans. That is what we do if we are true fans. I am a proud Gator fan today and have been everyday of my life and will continue to be.My Gator pride does not hinge on whether we win or lose and does not soar based on tearing down my opponents…..I just don’t understand all the tearing down of your opponents.
Hold your head high, support your team in the good and bad years and leave it at that. This great country of ours is built on freedom of choice and aren’t we glad. It is exactly that freedom of choice that allows me to be a Gator..you to be a Bama Fan…the next guy to be a Seminole….Be Proud and Positive. You don’t make yourself look any better by tearing down the other fellow.
But seriously, what kind of a football player cries over ONE loss? It wasn’t even a close game- he had time to accept it before the final score. Part of being a mature person is being able to handle when things don’t go your way.
Personally I can’t stand him because of the way UF fans worship him. While he’s “tried” to keep a “Christian” image, he’s also allowed himself to become a false idol and has never rejected all of the attention… just saying…
Tim Tebow is one of the greatest football players in the country. It hurts me when people make negative references about him. What is so bad about having passion for your faith, being a great role model and helping people. The people who make these remarks are extremely jealous of a super human being. We will miss Tim Tebow, but we know he will always be a Florida Gator. I wish him the best of luck always!!!
Tim Tebow is one of the greatest football players that has ever stepped on the field. Besides that, he has opened alot of people’s eyes to what really matters in life, and that is God. The bottom line is..He’s the best
To me, it is absolutely amazing what people will say to try and bring someone down. Tim Tebow is a great role model on the field and off the field. Who cares if he cries…who cares if he wants to wear scriptures under his eyes? The Gators had a great season, and will have many more.
Go Gators
Tim Tebow is a great person/role model/christian/football player the only reason why people make such a big idea about anything bad he does is because they know he is better than them. Whatever Tim Tebow decides to do with his life he will be great at. The promise he made was not fufilled but thats not all his fault. At the SEC championship game, he threw some good passes to Demps, Cooper, and Nelson and they all screwed up the pass. People can’t put the weight of a team on one guys shoulders(even if he does have superhuman strenght), the whole team had some errors that lead to the Gators defeat. Something else that really ticked me off about the game was that the refs(in my opinion made some bad calls, or should have called some). Well Tim Tebows last college football game is on Jan. 1st, so instead of shaking our heads and saying what a loss, lets cheer on the Gators to victory over Cinncinati.
You can’t blame this loss solely on Tim Tebow. Like he said it’s a team game and therefore a team loss. Granted he didn’t have his best game but he didn’t play horrible either. He played average which is just unusual for him. I’m ashamed to admit but while I was watching the game I too blamed only Tebow, he’s my favorite player and when things don’t go right you tend to blame the best players. After seeing him crying on the sideline and during his interview in midfield, and listening to his press conference, I decided I might have been to hard on him and I went back and re-watched the game. After doing this I came to the following conclusion defense is the main reason we lost the game, our defense couldn’t stop anything. That you can’t blame on Tebow. Yeah Tebow had some bad throws and he underthrew Aaron in the endzone but he also had some good throws and many of those were dropped. He also had some big plays on the ground. When he had those two back-to-back big runs it seemed that he finally fired up everyone and they scored a touchdown shortly after that. However after that no one seemed fired up anymore and not by a lack of effort from Tebow, he was constantly in the defensive huddle trying to fire them up but it just didn’t work. The defense would still go out and miss should be tackles and that you can’t blame on Tebow. He knows he let his team down and all the fans, but it wasn’t all his fault. He is just the easiest person to blame because he’s suppose to be superman, however if you ask Tim Tebow he’d tell you he’s the farthest thing from superman, that just shows what kind of person he is. Tim Tebow is a true champion and he’s an excellent role model. So Good Luck in your final game on January 1st, Tim we’ll be cheering for ya! In Tebow We Trust!
Tim’s eye scripture has been a subject on Neal Boortz’s talk radio. He thinks it doesn’t belong. I think it’s served its purpose in getting this man’s attention.
God bless, Tim. God has used you and will continue to do so.
The team and coaches let him down badly, but he took the blame. Tim was quoted after the game saying “I just want to congratulate Coach [Nick] Saban and [Alabama's] players,” he said. “Classy university and classy team.” Too bad one can’t say the same for some of the Alabama fans, as evidenced by their comments here.
Hey Katie Self.
Please shut your self-righteous mouth. Everyone in the SEC, especially LSU and Florida, know their is a reason Alabama never, ever has any calls go against them. The SEC is in Alabama. Name one time in one game in the SEC when an official has not made a call against your opponent which cost you a game? We played like crap tonight and probably would have lost anyway, but the three magical no calls on holding on the screen play with 4 minutes left in the first half was just ridiculous. Who missed those three calls when he was looking right at them? Bobby Moreah, you remember, the guy who got in all kinds of trouble for watching a Tennessee player push a Florida player, but only threw the flag once the Florida player pushed back. The one who was harassed for it. You don’t think that guy has a vendetta against Florida? You would not have even been in the SEC championship except that two SEC officials, one in the replay booth, who cannot tell when a person is in bounds like in the LSU game. I usually always cheer the SEC team in the national title, but I will be hoping for a Texas win this year. If it is an SEC officiating crew, you might have a chance. Alabama fans are the absolute worst.
