The No. 1 Florida Gators went into a very hostile Tiger Stadium (aka Death Valley) last night and left with a 13-3 victory over the No. 4 ranked Tigers. All week we kept hearing that Tim Tebow would be a game-time decision. Rumors started circulating around 9am that Tim was going to start and at around noon Meyer said the doctors officially cleared him to play.
Tebow’s eye black last night’s game against the LSU Tigers was Thessalonians 5:18 – Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. That’s pretty fitting for last nights game don’t you think?
Honestly, Tim didn’t play his best game. He made some terrible throws. I can think of a few off the top of my head. 1, the interception throw at the end of the game towards Riley Cooper. 2, the almost touchdown pass he threw to Aaron Hernandez where the ball just barely skimmed the grass. He threw that ball way too low. 3, there was another pass to Hernandez that was way behind him. Aaron tried to catch the ball then it popped way up in the air. The Gators are thankful it wasn’t picked.
“I tried to play smart,” Tebow said. “I told him, I said, when we were talking to Coach [Urban] Meyer, I said, ‘I’m not going to go out there and play tentative or scared. That’s not me.’
“I did try to play smart but I wasn’t scared or timid at all.”
But all in all, Tebow played a good game and the Gators probably wouldn’t have won with out. He was 11-16 for 134 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also rushed the ball 17 times for 38 yards (though some of those “rushes” weren’t really designed carries).
How do you think Tim played? What is your reaction to the game?
I also agree, it wasn’t his best game. I think it was more along what he said, “playing smart”-he held back slightly to see how he’d do post-concussion, but now that he knows what he’s able to do, he’ll play slightly more to old-form with Arkansas.
I wasn’t sure whether to grimace with disdain or laugh at the usual amateurishness of the St. Pete Times coverage of the big win over LSU.
“Tebow Plays Minor Role . . . ”
The Tampa Tribune got it right. Whenever Tim is in the game, whether given a reduced role because of a previous concussion or if he’s in 100% high form, he does not play a minor role. His very presence in the lineup forces LSU to make significant defensive adjustment.
I think I know what the Times was trying to get at. Yes, Tim carried fewer times than usual, especially in the first half. But to say he had a “minor role” is preposterous. There was only one touchdown in this game and it came from Tebow, who froze the cornerback with a step-up as if he was going to run and then looked him off before throwing to Coop for the only TD of the game. Minor role?
This isn’t the first time the Times has shown a complete lack of any real football sophistocation. Earlier in the week, its lead columnist insisted that Tebow not play this game, as if he was a licensed neurologist who had spent hours pouring over Tim’s medical analysis. Martin Fennelly was right on target when he wrote Sunday that anyone who thought Tim wouldn’t play (after a week of practice) needed HIS head examined. Of course we’re all concerned with Tim’s health, but I think the team of Florida doctors is a lot more qualified to give medical advice than some columnist who appears to be about 100 pounds overweight.
Tebow played very conservative. However he played, along with the whole team, with a certain pose as only a well deciplened/coached player(team) would play. I would love to have seen the gators blow coach Miles away. But, the gators played an awesome game. We are all thankful for Tebows speedy recovery as well as being a Florida Gator. Go Gators!!!!!!
i think he did a great job, though the flu made him lose a lot of weight and he’s still recovering from a concussion.
