Tebow Named Maxwell Finalist; Still Alive in Heisman Race

Tim Tebow was named a Maxwell Award Finalist on Monday. Joining Tim on the finalist list are fellow QBs Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy. The Maxwell Award is given annually to the nation’s best all-around player (Tebow won it last year).

I think Tim has a great shot at becoming a back-to-back winner of the Maxwell. He’s playing on a National Championship contender and has compiled very good stats. He doesn’t have the yardage or touchdown numbers that McCoy and Bradford have, but that’s because the Gators don’t throw the ball as much as them. If Tim was the nation’s best all-around player last year, then he certainly hasn’t done anything in 2008 to lose that distinction.

In other notes… Tim Tebow is still alive in the Heisman race!

Compiled by the Rocky Mountain News in Denver, the Scripps poll is in its 22nd year, making it the longest-running weekly Heisman ranking in the country. The final poll, taken in December, has predicted the Heisman winner correctly in 18 of the previous 21 seasons. Ten voters select five players each week. The tabulations are made on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis, with five points for a first-place vote, four points for second, etc. First-place votes are in parentheses.

This week’s poll, with statistics from last week:

Player, Position, School, Last Week, Points

1. Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma, 14-of-19, 304 yards passing, 4 TDs, 42 (5)

2. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas, Did not play, 41 (3)

3. Graham Harrell, QB, Texas Tech, 33-of-55, 361 yards, 3 TDs, 27 (1)

4. Tim Tebow, QB, Florida, 9-of-11, 201 yards passing, 3 TDs, 23 (1)

Good Luck Tim!

  1. i think he has a shot to. but if he keeps getting pulled out due to our blowouts, i dont think his stats wil be piling on up. he has too much help this year.
