Tim Tebow Out of the Heisman Race?

Through the first four games of 2008, Tim Tebow is 62 of 102 (60.8% completion rate) for 808 yards and 6 touchdowns. He has also added 125 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns. Now, we all know that Tim Tebow couldn’t repeat his 2007 numbers and it’s safe to safe that a season like that won’t ever be repeated. But check out Tim’s stats through the first 4 games of 2007. He was 65 of 95 (68.4% completion rate) for 1096 yards and 10 touchdowns (1 interception). He also added 358 yards and 7 touchdowns rushing the ball.

His numbers really aren’t that far off from his 2007 numbers, and the first four 2008 opponents have been more difficult then 2007s. His completion rating is down some, but that’s not all his fault (Gators probably had 2-3 drops against Ole Miss alone).

My point of this post is that Tim Tebow may not be playing as bad as a lot of Gator fans think he is. He’s numbers aren’t gawdy, but they’re still good for a starting quarterback. I think he’ll pick things up over the coming weeks, and playing against a sorry Arkansas team should get them on track.

Do you think Tim Tebow is out of the Heisman race? I’ve seen several Heisman rankings and Tim’s not even Top 10 anymore. I think he may surprise people and come up from behind and make it to New York. If the Gators win out, it will be hard to keep a reigning Heisman winner out of it.

I know this is supposed to be a website focused on tebow and his accomplishments, but right now I’m not sure if his name should even be considered in anything concerned with post season awards until his team wins at least a few big ones. LSU is the game for the gators to win EVEN IF TEBOW HAS A HUGE GAME. That is, he could throw for 500 yards in this game and still lose and not only not be considered for the heisman but be SOL on any kind of award at the end of the year. He will lose these spots to players like sam bradford, graham harrell and chase daniel (and maybe even colt mccoy if he continues to play as well as he has). Note that Mark Sanchez has had an equally impressive year and doesnt even play in a spread offense, but b/c SC dropped to an unranked (much like UF) his chances are toast of getting that hardware.

Moreover, “winning out” is now just an ideal, not even a given with the way this gators team has been playing. THEY LOST TO AN UNRANKED TEAM!!! This is going to be an uphill battle especially since they might have to play a team like GA or BAMA in the SEC championship which Tebow now would most definitely have to win to get the award. Im not saying its too much to overcome, but things look grim for him now

Technically, they can only play Bama for the SEC championship out of the two, since UGA is in the SEC East with UF.

Your team plays in this format.

I really don’t care about the heisman anymore. I just want Tebow to play to his fullest and accomplish his one remaining goal which is to get a championship. LSU will be big but I really think the only reason they lost to ole miss was lack of focus and interest. heck, even Tebow looked uninterested in the game and he is the most passionate player in football period. Now that the gators have a wakeup call, You know this won’t be happening again. Georgia, LSU, watch out. haha. :)
