How Valuable is Tebow to the Gators?

Where would the Gators be right now without Tebow as their quarterback? 4-8? 5-7?

It’s safe to say that Tebow is the most valuable player on the Gator team. The Gators lost Harvin for a few games at the end, and they still managed to win their games big. In the few games where Tebow had his bum shoulder, the Gators struggled, specifically against Georgia. While I still blame Moore’s fumbles for that loss, had Tebow been 100% the Gators might have pulled it off.

When trying to size Tebow up to other top quarterbacks in the NCAA I like to ask this question. Would you trade Tebow straight up for any other quarterback in the country? Would you trade Tebow for Woodson or Chase Daniels? Would the Gators have been better off with Brian Brohm? The answer is no. I wouldn’t trade Tebow for anyone. He is that good.

So when these experts are talking about the Heisman and how Tebow has 3 losses, then need to pause for a moment and think about how many losses the Gators would have had if Tebow wasn’t their quarterback. He is the more valuable to the success of the Gators then any other quarterback is to their team (except maybe Dennis Dixon as we all saw what happened to Oregon when Dixon went down).

Chase Daniel, DANIEL (not plural), and yes I would (trade Tebow for Daniel that is). Chase is going to sit back in the pocket and make things happen with his arm more than Tebow can and thats why he’s the more superior Heisman candidate. Mark my word, one day, Tebow will find himself in a game where he’s going to have to throw into the thick of a defense, I mean really be poised and squeeze the ball into tight places and make accurate throws FROM THE POCKET, and he’s going to find out what its like to be a true pocket quarterback.

    Butch, he’s already done that.

I beg to differ. In games like the loss to Georgia Urban Meyer moved the pocket for him and allowed him to get the ball out on the corner to keep him at a fairly high completion percentage, but this was the first team to really keep him (somewhat) tamed…it was one of the first games where he was being sacked because he was seeing not only routes that were being covered well, but particularly routes over the middle that he wasnt willing to throw (not because he cant, but because he’s too used to using his feet). My prediction is that against a team like Oklahoma, or even USC (just because Carrol always has something up his sleeve for the spread) Tebow would actually be forced into mistakes, or at best the underneath routes that wont win games against teams with great defensive speed.

I apologize for the double post. Allow me to clarify, it’s not that Tim doesnt make the accurate throws in the pocket, I’ve seen him do that also (magnificent games against LSU, Auburn, and Tennessee) however, my arguments are that when it comes to facing a legitimate pass rush and having options downfield I find Tebow will choose not to make the passes that a Chase Daniel or Colt Brennan will make (specifically stepping up in a collapsing pocket and keeping the vision downfield/making an accurate pass) because he’s a great runner. With a defense that can neutralize that however (as did Georgia) he cant win those games at the quarterback position that require certain kinds of passing. The other #15 can, hence the speculation about Tebow as a passer. I’ll post again at the onset of the gator’s bowl game and see if my rant is even somewhat warranted.
