Unfortunately, the Alabama Crimson Tide got in the way of that goal – the Florida Gators lost to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game tonight by a final score of 32-13. Tim Tebow did not play his best game, but we can’t say the Gators lost because of him. The defense played absolutely horrible and Alabama did a great job at keeping Tim Tebow and the Gator offense off the field.

Tim finished the game 20/35 for 246 yards and 1 touchdown, plus 63 yards on the ground. Tim also threw an interception. I’m not going to sit here and say Tim Tebow’s interception in the beginning of the fourth quarter cost the Gators the game, but it certainly put the nail in the coffin. Aaron Hernandez was wide open in the back of the end zone by 5 yards and Tebow completely underthrew him. The way the momentum was going, a score there might have brought the Gators back in the game.

The Gators were behind from the very first drive of the game. It’s not often in Tim Tebow’s career that he’s had to come from behind and unfortunately they just couldn’t do it. A couple of key drops by Gator receivers only added to the difficulty. Tim did make a few bad throws, he was throwing behind receivers all day.

Tim’s Eye Black for the SECCG was John 16:33 which reads – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

You can tell this loss absolutely crushed Tim. He was crying at the end of the game and during his interview at midfield. I’m sure it was very tough for him knowing the Gators let their fans down. Tim Tebow will have one final game as a Florida Gator sometime in January. They’ll get a BCS Bowl Game, but it won’t mean that much not being a National Championship Game. The Bowl game will be Tim’s final game as a Florida Gator – capping off arguably the greatest Gator career of all time.

If any of you want to send me your reactions to the SECCG, I’ll do my best to post them.

EDIT: I know the title of this post may be a little harsh and that a perfect season is a lot of pressure to put on a single player, but he did say before the season started that this was his goal.

Tim Tebow – SEC Championship Game http://www.tebowzone.com/2009/12/tim-tebow-sec-championship-game/ http://www.tebowzone.com/2009/12/tim-tebow-sec-championship-game/#comments Fri, 04 Dec 2009 13:31:57 +0000 David http://www.tebowzone.com/?p=467 The No. 1 Florida Gators and the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide meet tomorrow in Atlanta to battle for the 2009 SEC Championship. What a game this is going to be. Florida is led by senior QB and Heisman Trophy Winner Tim Tebow – one of the most dangerous players in college football. Tim has the ability to beat you in the arm and run you over on the ground.

Alabama is familiar with Tim Tebow though. They got a healthy dose of him in last years’ SEC Championship Game – a game in which Florida won 31-20. In that game Tim was 14/22 for 216 yards and 3 touchdowns plus 57 yards on the ground. I remember a throw he made to Louis Murphy down the sideline that was just incredible. Without Percy Harvin in that game, it was up to Tim to put the team on his back and carry them to victory. He did just that.

Tim Tebow will face similar circumstances tomorrow afternoon as the Gators try to win back to back SEC Championships. The Florida Gator receivers just aren’t as good as they were last year and the offensive line has struggled lately at protecting Tim in the pocket. This year we could see a different type of game – maybe a defensive struggle. Something like we saw against LSU earlier in the year.

For the Gators to win Tim must protect the football. He’s only thrown four interceptions all year, but he has fumbled it a few times while trying to gain that extra yard. Always going full speed until he hits the gorund is part of Tim’s mentality – it’s how he plays the game. But against a team like Alabama, we can afford no mistakes.

Urban will approach the game with a balanced offense planned. A healthy dose of Tim Tebow and guys like Demps/Rainey. Tim knows what needs to be done to win the game and we all expect him to do it. I’m predicting something like a 21-10 Gator win. What do you think?

Go Gators!
