Tim’s agent said that he would become the most marketable player in the history of the NFL, all the coverage from last night and this morning is just the first drop in the bucket. I’m sure he’ll be on the cover of every single magazine this week as well. Did you also notice that Tim Tebow was the only player ESPN interviewed for like 3-4 minutes? They had tons of players filmed at their houses, but only Tim got the exclusive. Check it out:
Thanks to the Jay Cutler trade last year, the Denver Broncos had two first round selections in this year’s draft. They were able to trade down several times with their 11th pick to acquire more picks and move into the 25 slot – a perfect place to grab Tim Tebow.
There’s is definitely some risk involved with this pick – but that can be said about all NFL rookies. Josh McDaniels has a great offensive mind and is a student of Patriots coach Bill Belichick. He’ll know exactly how to coach Tim and build him into a franchise quarterback. The Broncos currently have 4 quarterbacks on their roster including Kyle Orton and Brady Quinn. Tebow should be given every chance in training camp to compete for the starting job against those two guys.
Once again, Congratulations Tim Tebow! I’m glad that this is all done and over with – time to move on to the next chapter in your life.
Time for me to start reskinning this site with Bronco team colors and updating the site navigation!
]]>According to an ESPN article, Tim Tebow already knows where he is going to be selected in the draft. That should raise a few eyebrows considering no one knows what will happen in the draft – teams keep everything a secret and teams can trade draft picks, thus shuffling up the order.
Tim Tebow has the answer to the NFL draft’s best-kept secret. His agent, Jimmy Sexton, was maintaining Tuesday night that they already know where Tebow will be drafted this week.
No, really. Sexton claims he knows.
“Yep,” he said.
So, Sexton was needled, will it shock the world?
“I don’t know if it’s gonna shock the world because I always thought he was going to do well,” Sexton laughed. “But we pretty much know. We have a pretty good idea what’s going to happen.”
Every scout and NFL executive knows what Tim did in college – he’s one of the best of all time with 2 national championships, a Heisman and countless NCAA records. He did things on the field that no one had ever done in the history of the game. Tim wowed them all at the NFL Combine, worked out privately for many teams and has been one hell of a marketing machine (he signed a Nike deal and is on the cover of EA’s NCAA Football 11). One team will get the total package when they select Tim Tebow.
Who will it be? Could the recent developments with Ben Rothleisberger force the Pittsburgh Steelers to grab Tim with their first pick? Maybe – but if we’re to believe Sexton then he would have know Tim’s draft position before the NFL announced Big Ben’s suspension yesterday. Could it be his hometown Jacksonville Jaguars? Could it be the Arizona Cardinals?
If Tim is not picked tonight, then he will likely go in the top of the 2nd round tomorrow night. And you can guarantee he will be the talk of the NFL all day Friday.
]]>Let’s take a look at some of the top NFL Mock Draft websites and see where they have Tim going.
Walter Football – 3rd round – They have Tim Tebow going to the Jacksonville Jaguars with the number 74 pick overall. I don’t see Tim lasting this long at all, but for the Jags it would be a dream scenario.
New NFL Draft – 2nd round – They have Tim Tebow going to the Buffalo Bills with the number 41 pick overall. If Tim slips out of the first round, Buffalo will be in prime position to grab him with their 2nd round pick. Buffalo is one of the teams that flew Tim Tebow in for a private sit down and workout at their facility.
My NFL Draft – 2nd round – They have Tim Tebow going to the Carolina Panthers with the number 48 pick overall. The Panthers did release long time QB Jake Delhomme this offseason and have all their hopes riding on Matt Moore. They’ll definitely want to bring in a backup just in case Moore doesn’t work out.
Draft Countdown – 1st round – One of the few mock drafts I’ve seen that has Tim Tebow in the first round. They have Tim going to the Minnesota Vikings with the #30 pick overall. I can definitely see Tim in Purple and gold, plus reunited with fellow Gator Percy Harvin.
So basically Tim is all over the board – mocks have him anywhere from the 1st to 3rd round. I don’t think any player in NFL history has been like this before… where no one knows where to rank him. Will you be watching the NFL Draft this Thursday? Post a comment and let me know.
]]>For the first time ever the NFL Draft will be in prime time and spread out over 3 days. The first round will be on April 22 at 7:30 pm eastern, followed by the second and third rounds on April 23 at 6:30 pm eastern and will conclude with rounds four through seven on Saturday at 10:00 am. By dragging the draft out over 3 days and inviting a lot more players to attend, the NFL is trying to turn the Draft into big star studded event. They’ll get a lot more TV revenue and hope more people will watch. It also gives teams more time to make trades and evaluate players.
I am still expecting Tim Tebow to be drafted somewhere in the middle to end of the first round – around picks 22-25. Look out for Pittsburgh – they’ve been sending messages to their players that character matters and you won’t find a better character guy than Tim Tebow.
]]>Today, another head coach came out and said Tim Tebow will be a first round pick. “I can’t believe a quarterback of his stature won’t be (taken in the first round),” Pete Carroll said, via NFL.com. Carroll is the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, a team in need of a quarterback. The Seahawks, however, pick at the top of the draft and likely won’t be grabbing Tebow in the first round.
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick did not mention what round he things Tebow will be drafted in, but he did have solid praises for the guy: “I think it’s obvious that within the last six weeks, that he’s worked on his mechanics and they’ve improved, which is a credit to him. He’s very coachable and he works very hard. I’m sure that whatever he feels he needs to do, he’ll work very hard at, whatever that is. Athletically, he tested very well at the combine, which you can see on the field.”
The Patriots have a private workout scheduled with Tim Tebow in the coming days/weeks.
With more and more coaches and NFL executives coming out (remember Mike Holmgren did as well after Tim’s Pro Day) and saying how much they live Tebow and think he’ll be a high draft pick, we have to start believing they are on to something. You can’t believe “experts” like McShay and Kiper… those guys never played the game and are nothing bu talking heads. Another thing to note is that the NFL invited Tim to New York City for the Draft – and they don’t do that unless they think a player will be a 1st round pick. Don’t be susprised if we have a few more coaches give their thoughts on Tebow in the coming weeks.
]]>Usually these are guys expected to go in the top 10 picks. However that is not always the case… Remember in 2007 when Brady Quinn was there and he kept falling and falling in the draft. The cameras were all over him in that little room just waiting for him to cry because no one was picking him. It was horrible. And there have been a ton of players that “experts” predict to go high but end up falling – Aaron Rodgers is another that comes to mind.
ESPN says that the NFL is upping the number of players invited to the NFL Draft from 9 to 18. They also hint that the NFL wants to bring Tim in for ratings, not because they expect him to be a high draft pick.
In my opinion, Tim will be a late first / early second round pick… so no, I don’t think he should go to New York and sit in that room for hours and hours while other people’s names are called. He should be at home with his family and friends watching on TV like 99% of the other prospects do. What is your take on this situation? Should Tim go to New York if he is invited?
