The team ran some 7 on 7 drills and full 11 on 11 drills. From what I’ve read Tim Tebow had an OK camp this weekend. He threw a couple interceptions but also accounted for some touchdowns on offense. He was in line as the #2 QB behind Kyle Orton. Below are some comments from the Denver Broncos writers about the mini camp.
Friday
In the first 7-on-7 drill of the day, Kyle Orton stepped up under center for the first reps, followed by Tim Tebow and then Brady Quinn. That same rotation held true during a 7-on-7 red zone drill later in practice, but during several 11-on-11 drills, the order was Orton, Quinn then Tebow.
When Tebow stepped under center, his first pass was picked off by Darcel McBath. “That’s two today!” shouted defensive coordinator Don “Wink” Martindale. But the offense got back on track, and the next play was a quick screen pass from Tebow to Moreno for a big gain.
In the same red-zone drill, Tebow couldn’t find an open receiver so he took off running downfield for a touchdown. The defense razzed him a little from the sideline for not throwing the ball, but McDaniels said the play was allowed to continue.
Saturday
After a defensive timeout, Tim Tebow zipped a pass to Matthew Willis in traffic for a score. The rookie punctuated the throw with a fist-pump, but Martindale wasn’t as enthused. “Oh, we sacked him six times on that one, but ok, touchdown,” Martindale said, earning a playful shove from Willis.
During 7-on-7 drills, Tebow tried to hook up with fellow first-rounder Thomas down the left sideline but Thomas got tangled with Goodman for an apparent defensive pass interference. The offense pleaded for a call. Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale made light of the play, coyly saying, “We’ll decline it.”
Sunday
One of Tim Tebow’s reps in the first set of 11-on-11 drills was a designed quarterback draw up the center of the defense.
Tim Tebow will now have some time off before training camp starts at the end of July. Just because there are no mandatory practices doesn’t mean Tim isn’t going to be working on his mechanics and lifting weights. He’s dedicated to being the best football player he can be.
]]>Tebow was working with the RBs – his first snap was a handoff to RB Bruce Hall. Tim also threw a couple of passes to former Georgia Bulldog running back Knowshon Moreno. Tim worked in several goal line plays with the RBs and threw some outs to the pylon. Those outs to the pylons is not something he did a lot of in college – usually he just ran in for the touchdown himself.
Tim then moved into some 7 on 7′s against a veteran defense. He was 3 for 3 in his first drill against the defense. Don’t get too excited though – Tim wasn’t out there against the first string defense. Tebow currently ranks fourth on the depth chart currently behind Kyle Orton, Brady Quinn, and Tom Brandstater. Don’t worry though, he’ll move his way up very quickly heading into training camp.
“I feel like I have made some progress, but I still have a long way to go,” he said. “I just have to keep taking mental reps, taking physical reps and staying after it.” Tim has been working his but off – and it’s showing. Tebow was the first offensive player to finish each of the post-practice sprints. No one is going to work harder.
There was a lot of media out there for the Broncos OTAs and they were all focusing in on Tim Tebow. Tim said, “That’s not something I can control much. I think something my (teammates) will know is how hard I’ll work, and my character and what I’m all about. So I don’t think that will bother them too much, to be honest.”
We have a video interview for you too: Tim talks about the friendships he’s built with the players, including competing quarterback Brady Quinn. But he also goes into the great amount of competition he is facing, and how is is only concerned right now with learning the playbook and spending time at the facilities.
