On Tuesday, the Jaguars held a Team Teal pep rally to drive ticket sales. While there, Jaguars General Manager Gene Smith (the guy who drafts players) had this to say about Tim Tebow.
“I hope he has a great career in the NFL wherever it’s at, whether we’re a cat in this hat or somewhere else in the league,” said Smith. “He’s gonna be successful at anything he pursues in life.”
Smith also praised Tebow’s efforts in the community and his leadership. In discussing the way Tim willed himself and his team to some victories in college, Gene said, “I’m a firm believer that will wins more than skill.”
Nobody knows what will happen until Draft Day. Every team in the NFL will take a hard look at Tim. The Jaguars are linked to him so much for a few reasons:
1. Tim Tebow is from Jacksonville, so he’d be playing in front of his hometown crowd
2. The Jaguars need a quarterback
3. The Jaguars have serious ticket sale issues and Tim would definitely bring in new fans
4. The Jaguars lack star power and you can’t find a bigger super star than Tim Tebow in the draft
5. The Jaguars lack leadership in the locker room
Tim Tebow can cure all the Jaguars ills … as long as he produces and becomes a good NFL player. Will the Jags take the risk and pick him with their first selection, we’ll see!
]]>Following a late fourth quarter interception by David Garrard – that sealed the loss for the Jags – fans in my section started chanting “Tebow … Tebow … Tebow.” There is a large contingency of fans in Jacksonville that want to see Timmy in teal and black. The Jaguars need a quarterback and they need a hometown hero. Tim’s been to a few Jag games in recent years and the fans just erupt when they announce his name.
Some fans are even preparing themselves before the NFL Draft by ordering custom Jaguars jerseys with Tebow on back. No joke – you will see several of these at the stadium on any given Jag game.
We’ll get more into NFL talk as the Draft approached – I just wanted to let you know about the chanting after the game last night.
