There are many people across America who would do a lot to spend time with Tim Tebow, but this week, two Florida people upped the ante. At a Friday gala luncheon to benefit Tebow’s charity foundation, an unnamed couple win the prize of a day spent with the New York Jets quarterback with a very large bid of $100,000.
“It was very humbling, and you don’t necessarily feel worthy,” Tebow said Saturday at TPC Sawgrass, at the golf tournament that concluded the foundation’s events. “That day I feel like I’ve got to do a few extra things to be special, you know? I’ve got to try to be a little bit better.”
The nature of Tebow’s socialization is unspecified, as are the names of the bidders — those working for the Tim Tebow Foundation were originally concerned that the winners could pony up, but when they found out the names, there was no more concern. One reason for the suspicion was that the winners live in a part of the Florida Keys that isn’t known for multi-million-dollar homes and gated communities.
Erik Dellenback, the executive director of the Tim Tebow Foundation, told ESPN New York of the intent of the winning bid, and the thought process of the people behind it.
“They live in a part of town that has a lot of people in need and a lot of people with a lot of wealth, and she felt like bringing Timmy to her town down there would maybe change the town. It sounds like she’s going to have a little event where she brings over some of the kids who are in need and some of the kids who are pretty deserving.
“I got goosebumps thinking about it because that’s what the night was. You thought (the bid) was for one reason — which you worry [because] you think, ‘Why is somebody paying $100,000?’ — and then you found out what their motives are and you’re just blown away by how God had moved in the room at the time.”
Dellenback said that Tebow was blown away by the size of the bid, as well.
“I think Tim was stunned. Then I’m sure he went in his head and thought, ‘What am I going to do for a day?’ But it’s great. Now that he knows what he’s going to do, he’s so excited to do it.”

Tebow packs on the pounds at Jets’ request06/13 6:15 PM
Tim Tebow is bringing extra pounds to the New York Jets’ ground-and-pound offense.FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Tim Tebow is bringing extra pounds to the New York Jets’ ground-and-pound offense.
Tebow, whom the Jets plan to use in a Wildcat package, revealed Wednesday at minicamp that his weight is 249 pounds — about nine pounds heavier than his playing weight last season with the Denver Broncos. The Jets’ backup quarterback said the team wants him at 250 for the season.
“I’m trying to be in shape, be strong enough to do anything, but also fast enough to run around a little bit as well,” said Tebow, adding that he’s never been this heavy.
This provides further evidence that Tebow will be an integral part of the rushing attack. The Jets have emphasized that his playing time will come in the Wildcat and that he’s not competing with Mark Sanchez for the starting job.
On Day 2 of the mandatory minicamp, witnessed by a few hundred fans in Tebow’s first public practice, the Jets demonstrated just how much they want to avoid a controversy. It involved some damage control.
Before practice, Rex Ryan said “there may be a time” in training camp or the preseason when Tebow practices with the starting unit. Until Wednesday, he had worked almost exclusively with the second-team offense.
Immediately after Ryan’s news conference, a team spokesman attempted to clarify the coach’s remarks, saying Ryan meant Tebow would take first-team reps in the Wildcat package, not the conventional offense.
As it turned out, Tebow took two first-team reps at the end of practice — both in the red zone. Privately, the Jets believe Tebow can be a weapon inside the 20 because of his running ability.
Afterward, Tebow laughed when asked if there was any significance to the two reps. No, he said.
“Coach [Tony] Sparano does it every now and then, kind of throws you in there,” he said, referring to the offensive coordinator. “I don’t know if it’s necessarily a plan; it’s just kind of a feel thing.”
The Jets’ plan is to use him in the red zone. They ranked No. 1 in red zone efficiency last season, but they didn’t re-sign their top weapon, wide receiver Plaxico Burress. They believe Tebow will add a different dimension to their power-running attack, especially on a short field.
At 250 pounds, Tebow will be the heaviest ball carrier on the team, even bigger than fullback John Conner, who weighs 245 pounds. It’s not that Tebow looks flabby; he’s in terrific shape and was voted by teammates the second-best weightlifter on the offense. Ryan described Tebow’s physique as “rocked up” — which also could help him in his role as the up-back on the punt team.
Sparano said his No. 1 objective, for now, is to make Tebow a better quarterback. So far, he has been inconsistent, particularly with his accuracy. But teammates say it’s unfair to judge him because he has been working with mostly inexperienced backups.
That puts Tebow at a disadvantage, especially if he’s relegated to second-team reps throughout the summer. Not wanting to make a stink, he downplayed it.
“One way to look at it is, if you do a good job with the group you’re with, you should do even a better job with the ones,” he said.
Tebow’s first exposure to New York fans didn’t generate much of a buzz. A few fans yelled his name during the practice, but some also called out for Sanchez. It was hardly the circus atmosphere that some predicted.
Of course, this was only a minicamp in June, a long way from the real games.
After practice, Tebow signed autographs for fans, as did Sanchez, who was standing near him. The gap between the two quarterbacks is greater on the depth chart.
From a passing standpoint, Sanchez has outperformed Tebow, although Ryan claimed both quarterbacks have exceeded their completion percentages from last season. Both players are trying to adapt to Sparano’s system.
“I feel the ball jumping off my hand,” said Sanchez, adding that he’s in the best shape of his life.
Like Tebow, Sanchez has gained weight (he’s up five pounds to 230), hoping it will help him withstand the wear and tear of a full season. He also believes improved lower-body strength has added velocity to his passes.
Asked if this is the strongest he’s ever been, Sanchez replied, “Absolutely. Easily.”
Hi all have not been on in a while, thanks to all who keep us updated. I have been reading stories out of the Jets mini camp this week and it seems that Mark Sanchez is always doing the best, even when Sanchez has a bad day and throws interceptions, no one dwells on it and they seem to make excuses for his failures. But if Tebow has a an interception it is all over the media, when he does have a good day it seems it is swept under the carpet and no big deal made of it.
I just get tired of the media hounds bashing him. I keep praying that all will work out and he will finally be an starting NFL quarterback for a team who beleives in him all the way. Hopefully it’s the Jets, but Rex Ryan keeps changing his story so I don’t know what to think anymore. Just a little frustrated.
Then you have people like Jaws coming out and saying that Blaine Gabbert is a better quarterback than Tebow, than Tebow????
Again thank to all who keep us up on the all the latest news, the person running this site certainly does not.
But the actual statistics don’t lie and Timmy’s are better than Sanchez’s. Sanchez has struggled far more than Tebow. I Tweet with a woman who has been at Florham this week observing as a fan. She and her husband believe Timmy has made great strides in his delivery. She’s a Gator and has watched Timmy for years. If you noticed, Timmy did not take first string reps on Wednesday. Sanchez struggled on Wednesday and Tebow has had first team reps since. Also, Timmy is there because two head coaches, Sparano and Ryan stood on the sidelines last year and watched him beat their teams last season. I kind of think Sparano, the offensive coordinator likes Timmy better than Sanchez. I think T2 is seriously gaining on, if not surpassing, Sanchez. Like it or not Ryan is goiong to have a QB controversary!

Tebow’s brief work with first team snaps up attention
By Nate Davis, USA TODAY
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — New York Jets coach Rex Ryan began the week by saying quarterback Mark Sanchez would get all of the repetitions with the starters in the three-day minicamp.
Oops.
“(Tim) Tebow ran with the 1s, just like I told you he would,” Ryan said sheepishly Thursday of his popular backup quarterback, who took two snaps with the first team.
“Apparently I need to be in more offensive meetings.”
Ryan wasn’t the only one caught off guard. The No. 1 defense wasn’t expecting Tebow, either, and was caught out of position to defend him.
But Ryan was quick to clarify it was no indication Tebow is threatening Sanchez, whom Jets brass has repeatedly confirmed as the starter for the 2012 season. Ryan said new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano merely wanted to get a look at Tebow with the front-line players, though Thursday’s snaps did not involve the Wildcat or any other gimmicky formation.
“Tony’s got a plan for everything, and I’m sure there’s a couple things he wanted to see,” Ryan said.
Tebow, who also appeared to line up as a running back behind Sanchez, wasn’t available to comment Thursday but said Wednesday that he took two first-team snaps at quarterback in that day’s practice in the red-zone package.
“Just playing football, didn’t really feel any (different),” Tebow said with a laugh
Its not all Bad
See my comment to Tawk. I’ve read a lot of positive comments regarding Tebow’s effort’s vs Sanchez’s from Manish Menta, who writes for the NY media. He tweets throughout practice who is doing what and how well. Timmy makes mistakes but Sanchez makes far more. I am beginning to hope Timmy may overtake Sanchez in Traing Camp.
