Tim Tebow is moving to New York Jets

“Excited” was the word Tebow used frequently and relentlessly at a press conference Monday as he was introduced as the Jets’ second-string quarterback and first-string media sensation and quite possibly, the most soft-spoken, humble and likeable guy ever to grace an NFL uniform.

“I’m so excited about being a Jet,” he said as he stood alone at a podium in the team’s field house, used for the one-man news conference because of the crush of media that wanted to attend.

“I’m so honored and humble to be a Jet,” he continued. “I’m so thankful they wanted me.”

Tebow came to the Jets last week in a trade with the Denver Broncos, who jettisoned Tebow after signing free-agent superstar Peyton Manning.

The Broncos let Tebow go after he took over their starting quarterback position during the 2011 season, and led the team to the playoffs and a victory over the heavily favored Pittsburgh Steelers in their first playoff game. Surely the trade would have rankled the Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Florida.

“There’s no ill will to the Broncos, their coaching staff, Peyton Manning or anybody,” Tebow said. “I’m always gonna root for those guys because we went through a lot together.”

“We’ll have a lot of great memories for a long time from last season.”

Now he seems, well, excited, to make memories in New York.

“I just want to make this team a little bit better because I’m here,” he said.

And how will he do that behind starting quarterback Mark Sanchez? He’s excited to do whatever is asked of him, even if that doesn’t mean getting behind center on Sunday afternoons.

“I’m a football player first and then a quarterback,” Tebow said. “I will give my whole heart to being the best Jet I can possibly be.”

And that includes being a great teammate for Sanchez.

Tebow said he and the Jets starting QB are good friends who get along well, and should make each other better.

“We’ll be stronger together than we would be apart,” he said.

Meanwhile, New York is, you guessed it, excited to have Tebow.

Tebow is always going to be positive b/c he does not have to lower his standards due to the antics of others…not many individuals are capable of taking the high road when it is very obvious that others have gone out of their way to place obstacles in their path for the sole purpose of trying to keep (especially when Elrot & the rotten Bronco’s organization obviously are guilty of this w/T2) a person from achieving success b/c of perceived insecurities in not measuring up on their part!!!
We ALL know that he wanted to go to JAX and would have been excited for that opportunity if Elrot would have permitted this to happen and it was not for lack of trying on the part of JAX b/c they offered more than the JETS!!!! Plus, Coach Mularkey stated he did want Tebow in JAX!!! There is no doubt he “LOVES HIS HOMETOWN AND GATOR NATION” and amazingly enough states he has no ill will towards the less than honorable Bronco’s Organization and a broken QB with questionable morals they hope to replace him with!!! Tebow is a better person than most and deserves a fresh start and, hopefully, he can demonstrate all the qualities he is famous for in NY; i.e., leadership, honesty, integrity, work ethic second to none, exceptional role model, and strong moral character in regards to his christian faith on/off the field…basically an endless list and could go on and on!!!
Well, we know too with God’s help he can make lemonade when dealt lemons!!! So proud to be a fan of Timmys even if he is now in NY of all places!!! Know it will never be the same place b/c of who he is and just as he left forever his mark on The Denver Broncos Team and their fans as well as The Florida Gators and their fans too!!!

Wish him all the best and believe there are lots of loyal fans praying always for his protection and ability to overcome every obstacle!!!
    GBPT2!!!!!

Awesome press conference yesterday. TT did a great job and was not sidelined by the New York media. I think TT does want to be in New York. He says that he told John Fox that he did and that Denver chose to send him there. I think he believes he has a better chance of actually playing in NY than in Jax. After listening to their coaches and the GM, I agree. As much as I would like to have Timmy home in Florida, I think the Jags would have been more of the same. The owner wanted him and made the coaches get on board with it. They don’t believe in him as a football player. The Jets coaches seem to be all out for TT. His current off season QB coach, Noel Mazzone, is a former Jets coach. I am speculating that he may have given the Jets coaches information regarding Timmy’s progress and encouraged them to take him. The Jets are actually in New Jersey so TT will not have to live in NYC, but I bet we’ll see him and his bros at lots of NYC sports activities. I have a real positive feeling about this based a lot on what Timmy says himself. I don’t think he is faking the excitement. I think Mark Sanchez is in a lot of trouble. He is not popular with a lot of fans and a lot of Jets fans are predicting that Timmy will be starting by Halloween, if not before. ( I am reading this in NYC papers.) I do think he’s in a much better situation than Denver.

Hi Tisa! Just a side note on above…why then did he state to his close circle of friends that he: “Hopes to land in Florida?”
Plus, he stated that ultimately the decision was the Broncos and what was best for the team according to the VP; and we already know how he operates. Tebow is smart b/c he is not going to state what is obvious and is going to make the best of the situation even in NY. On a positive note, believe that Sparano was very much impressed with Tebow when he coached him at the 2010 Senior Bowl and was an overall factor in their pursuit.

There is an article out that Mr. Kahan responds to this issue. He said that the Jags would not commit to using him in any way. The Jets did. I am basing what I believe on what Tebow says. He thinks the Jets believe in him. He let Fox know he felt that way and that is where he ended up. If you go to http://www.Tebowseyeblack.com they have the conference posted there. I honestly believe he feels he has a better chance of starting with the Jets. The Jags are committed to Blaine Gabbert. He said in the press conference he would love to be home but the Jets offer the better chance. I don’t think he’s putting on a front. I think he really is excited,as he said repeatedly and I am excited for him.

      • ck says:

Tisa: Thanks for the info. Guess I still have my doubts even after having seen the conference–regularly go to that site too…wish to believe that everything works out for the best, especially in his case and will try to leave it at that. Can’t say it won’t be “exciting” b/c there never will be any doubt about that happening with Tebow playing!!!

        • Tisa says:

CK, you and I want the best for our QB. Have faith and believe that
God has him where he wants him to be; away from Denver and Elway and with people who believe in him. It means everything to him if people believe in him. I read on Twitter that he was at D1 in Nashville with Greg McElroy (the third string QB and former Alabama QB)yesterday. He’s already winning over his team mates. I can not wait until training camp. That will tell the tale. GBPT2!!!

          • ck says:

Tisa: Yes, you are right as always b/c I agree we “just want the best for our QB” and that is THE TRUTH!!!

  4. David Fostor says:

Tim constantly states that he’s excited to play for “coaches that want me.” Doesn’t take too much reading between the lines to see the truth of what went on in Denver, and what he sensed would be his future in Jacksonville. I agree with Skip Bayless, NYC is the best place for Tim to play. I cannot wait to see the Jets offense this season, you could say I’m ‘excited’.

    • ck says:

David: Well, I, too, am hoping that he hasn’t landed in the “fire from the frying pan” with a difficult assignment in NYC!! Yes, it will be
“E-X-C-I-T-I-N-G” to see how this all plays out to his benefit/platform!!!

To whoever is running the site now, I posted a comment to this thread about 24 hours ago. It’s still listed as ‘awaiting moderation’. Could you please finally post it, so I can take part in this discussion?

Brooke they ran BuzzyBuzzard off never did post his post after he posted the manning deal info we talk Tebow all the time and he has known Tim since he was very young and we are so very proud of him
He will do just fine with the JETS

  7. Brooke says:

(Since my comment from about 36 hours ago is still ‘awaiting moderation’, I’ll try posting it again w/out the urls.)

I was confused about what happened w/the trade, especially after Tim’s agent publicly said that Tim chose the Jets. But 3 articles I found explain what happened:

Here are the key quotes from a Michael Lombardi article on nfl(dot)com, about why Tim chose the Jets over the Jags:

“But the Jags’ football people hated Tebow as a player. They wanted nothing to do with him, regardless of his ability to generate interest.”

“By the end of the day, Denver had two offers on the table — one from the Jets, one from the Jags. The Broncos, according to my sources, felt it would be in everyone’s best interest to allow Tebow to pick his team.

Why did Tebow pick the Jets and not his hometown team? It’s simple: The Jets wanted him. Remember a column I wrote back in August about player sponsorship? The Jets were willing to sponsor Tebow, from their front office down to their coaches, and the Jags were not. Tebow made the right choice for his career.”

And here are quotes from a NY Daily News article:

“Tebow was in Los Angeles on Wednesday working out with UCLA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone. Throughout the day, when the Jets and Broncos were bickering over $5 million and the Jaguars jumped into the mix, Tebow was in constant communication with Denver coach John Fox.

He told Fox that he preferred to be traded to the Jets over the Jags, his hometown team. Tebow was turned off to the Jaguars because only new owner Shad Khan wanted him, sources told the Daily News. Jacksonville GM Gene Smith, new head coach Mike Mularkey and his top offensive assistants were adamantly against trading for Tebow. The Jags have the worst quarterback situation in the league with Blaine Gabbert, a bust as their No. 1 pick last year, and newly signed Chad Henne, but the coaches didn’t want Tebow.

The Jets were all-in on Tebow: owner Woody Johnson, Tannenbaum, Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano all agreed to pursue him. That wasn’t the case in Jacksonville — and it’s tough to work in an environment where you are not wanted. Even if Khan ordered Smith to trade for Tebow and then ordered Mularkey to play him — the Jags are in desperate need of a marketing boost — it would have been an unbearable situation for Tebow. The Rams and Packers were also interested, but Tebow had no shot at playing time in either spot, and both dropped out early.

The Broncos didn’t come to Tebow in the end and say: Okay Tim, where do you want to go? They had already solicited his opinion. The Jets’ and Jaguars’ offers to the Broncos were similar: The Jets offered $2.53 million and fourth- and sixth-round picks in exchange for Tebow and a seventh-round pick. The Jags offered $3 million and a fourth-round pick. Tebow was impressed the Jets hung in there when it looked like the deal was falling apart: It convinced him how much the Jets wanted him.

The Broncos sent Tebow to the Jets because he told Fox that’s the deal he wanted, although if the Jags’ offer had been significantly better, John Elway would have traded him to Jacksonville.”

And in another nfl(dot)com article, Khan explained the reason he didn’t offer a 3rd round draft pick was b/c he knew Tim didn’t want to go to the Jags:

‘Jaguars owner Shahid Khan isn’t a member of the sobbing chorus. In fact, he’s under the impression he dodged a bullet.

“That would have been the worst thing for Jacksonville and the worst thing for him,” Khan told The Florida Times-Union on Monday at the NFL Annual Meeting. “He didn’t want to come, obviously. … Any one of the 53 players we have, have to be committed to Jacksonville, making us be the best team we are. The question was: Did he want to come? And if the decision had been taken out (of his hands) and we got him, that would not be good for him, or for us.”‘

Tim told the Broncos that he wanted to go to the Jets, not the Jags, &, thankfully, they accommodated his request. I know it seems hard to believe that Elway & Co chose to do Tim a favor, but doing right by Tim is undoubtedly also good PR for them, and they did send Tim where he wanted to go. For that, I’m grateful.

Thanks Brooke, I am just worried that the Jets will only use Tebow in the wildcat and playing other positions. I pray the reason they wanted him was because they know he will get better as a passer and he already has so much going for him. I just pray the Jets are in it for the long haul with Tebow and will let him play quarterback.

I seen a interview yesterday with John Elway and he admitted when asked that Tebow was the biggest reason their season turned around which made Manning look at Denver as a contender and then picked them. I am glad he is giving credit where credit is due, the team won together but without Tebow there I really don’t think the Broncos would have won many games last year.

Thanks again Brooke, and go Tebow!

    • ck says:

Brooke: See earlier posts…what if he got his wish, as stated: “Hope I land in Florida, miss the South and my hometown” by going to a Florida Team with the possibility of turning around a franchise there too?!!! Well anything is certainly possible with T2 and who knows maybe they will have changes in JAX that are to his liking in the future; such as when Henne leaves b/c I know he had a lot of negative comments to say about Tebow while in Miami which proved to be simply NOT TRUE! The other scenario with the Broncos Organization just doesn’t sit well due to how they treated Tebow…If Elway wanted what was best for T2 this would not have happened the way it did; i.e., promising him that he is the future starter going into training camp etc.!! Plus, Tebow stated numerous times the ultimate decision was not his to make!!! Hope he has lots of success where he happens to be now and will turn things around there too!!! He was the ONLY ONE WITH ANY CLASS in my book!!!
Anyway, thanks for the info. and at least the site is up and running so the fans can still post!!
      GBPT2!!!
