The Denver Post is reporting that Tim Tebow will likely be the #2 tonight vs. the Seattle Seahawks. The game is scheduled for 9pm EST. Coach Fox said that Quinn and Tebow are in a battle for the backup roll and that we can expect to see a lot of Timmy in these last two preseason games.
This really is one of the biggest opportunities Tim will have this preseason to show the Broncos he can play quarterback in the league. He’ll get to go up against some stronger competition and not just a bunch of undrafted free agents. Tim’s a gamer – so my money is on him showing up big time tonight.
This is great news! Yeah, Orton’s the starter but at least they’re still giving Timmy a look. Now he just needs to get in there, play the downs they give him, and take care of business. John Elway in particular knows a thing or two about playing QB in the NFL, maybe tonight is the night he’ll come around to seeing Tim’s potential. I’m sure Timmy has been working very hard learning to play the position the way his coaches want him to play. One thing about him, you can’t question his work ethic. Just needs to keep his head up and do what he does best.
The Broncos win it in the 4th quarter with Tebow at the helm (NFL QB)…GREAT JOB TIM!! DEFINITELY PROUD OF YOU!!! GBX2/TEBOW/BRONCOS
OOPS…GATORS TOO!!
Don’t think it was enough to get him looked at more than Quinn though, TT was cold the whole night, he only opened up at the end when he should have put the game away starting in the third quarter. If TT was on fire the seahawks never wouldve come close to beating them
We went to the game last night and were surprised how little emotion Tim showed throughout. Frankly, we’ve never seen him play without passion before. It’s clear that he was told not to run, as we’ve seen all year; he starts to takeoff, then hesitates, then gets sacked or throws the ball away. I’m afraid the broncos are ‘coaching’ the brilliance out of his game. It’s not enough that he can make something happen, they clearly want to see him make it happen their way. He started the vast majority of the plays under center, which is counter intuitive to his game. Still, his numbers weren’t horrible, with a QB rating of around 83. I’d like to see Tim develop slowly over the next couple years, running special packages that showcase his amazing talents. Also, during the Packers/Colts game Phil Simms showed side by side footage of Aaron Rogers throwing motion from his college days and now. He showed the progress that can be made when a young man with talent and the willingness to work hard is given time to develop. Fortunately for Aaron, he played behind Brett Favre, so the pressure to perform at a high level wasn’t there for several years. Denver’s first string defense, if they can stay healthy, should keep Denver in a lot of games this year. However, their offense doesn’t look very good so far. This means that the pressure to perform, and the opportunity, will continue to be an issue for Tim. Let’s hope he does what it takes to prepare himself…and let’s hope he gets the passion back in his game!
Their not coaching the brililance out of his game, their try’n to coach him the whole complete NFL game. Its like he has taken spread offense 101 many times & doesn’t need that class again. & no team is gonna play a QB that knows & can run only 20% of the playbook, every NFL team runs plays & most the plays starting under center. The guy who went from shotgun the most was tom brady with running some spread offense elements but running plays from the spread in the NFL are very tough to get much from. Remember college & pro a very different. Snap’n the ball under center isn’t just snap’n the ball, that’s easy. Its about reading the defense & making check downs as you drop back. Right now tebow is reading them after he drops back that’s where that hesitation in the pocket came from more than anything. A great pro QB doesn’t throw to open players, he’s throws the player open. Its so different than college.
Its just like how plenty of people say that what they learned in college doesn’t or isn’t used much in their career after college. Its the same from college football to pro. If given time he should be able to get down what he has to do to become the starting QB. He just has so much still to learn & it makes many teams a little concerned when he gets hit more than he should. He’s gotta get pocket awareness down better, read the defense while drop’n back & if that’s not something he can get great at he will not be a starting QB. I’m watching the game right now & I know for you guys & gals here you don’t like it or even agree but orton does a much better job reading defense schemes. These times when tebows got people in his face so much & the back field so much is from not reading them & stepping from oneside of the pocket to the other & not hit’n your 3rd slot dump off guy. That’s the things I see watching him play & I can bet you every coach from any team see the same thing.
In the nfl everything is closer, with a CB blitz like happened last night, the QB needs to read that & just so much as slide a step to the side gives that room to finish the throwing motion & complete that pass. Slow motion it doesn’t look tip’d just really close to being.
The good thing is folks he’s showing flash of doing it right. Fair or unfair not one of the 32 teams are gonna run a system like tebow had in college cause in the nfl the defenses will shut it down & the QB will get hit more than any coach wants. That’s just how it is & that’s not gonna change & every coach anywhere in the nfl will tell you that. Why do you think all the rules protecting the QB came to be? No team wants you hit’n the QB & aren’t thrilled about QBs that take more hits than they have to.
Leadership ability in the nfl happens only if you’re run things right because players don’t follow & support a player that isn’t doing well by how he is suppose to run the plays. That’s why its been a big under current of losing the locker room if tebow had been named starter. Too many people in the media are bashing the kid but a lot of that does come from the fanatical fan base he has & so many of them thinking tebow is great when in the NFL he hasn’t been that yet or even very close. Right now & just right now he’s a middle of the pack QB & both sides need to see this cause its true. In time he’s gonna get much better I think but for now orton is better than tebow because orton can run what they’re try to do better than what tebow can right now. Also don’t forget when teams get more & more tape of tebow play’n you’ll see him have a harder time because good defensive coaches will “figure” him out so to speak. I think tebows best bet is to be on the sidelines learning for about 2 more years. He’ll get it down I think & really if they just make him the starter now it will harm his future in the NFL. Him be put down so bad is wrong but at the sametime the thinking of how great he is when he’s shown no such thing in the NFL yet is equally as bad. He’s middle of the pack & learning & that should be enough for everyone cause really it can’t be more than that yet. He has played long enough to write him off yet or put him on a pedestal. On a nonfootball side that’s fine but he’s not that yet in the NFL & watching him & see him learning & I can tell he’s learning that he can’t do the same things in the NFL as he did in college. He’s understanding this now & he’ll work hard at it. Also don’t think others don’t work just as hard in the NFL as he does, the top guys aren’t slobs that only show up at practise & go home cause so many of the best players work just as hard at things, if you think manning, brady, brees, ryan & so many more don’t put in as much & in some cases maybe more you’re wrong. That really is probably the most misunderstood thing in the NFL, that most all of these guys work a whole lot, remember you have the best of the best from college which pretty much equals out talent level on every team & it gets down to game plan, being smarter than another team, more prepared, able to adapt to something very fast & things like that.
Well I’ve written too much as I have a tendancy to do but I see growth in tebow & flashes of him figure’n things out so I think he has a bright side coming in time but its not ever gonna help him to praise him when he does well & blame others when he doesn’t. I’m sure he’d feel the exact same way cause that never helps growth. Never. He has to run the offense the way the team needs it run & the whole playbook & in time he’ll be able to but its too much bashing of him & too much praise of him. Really he needs to be forgotten by noth sides for a year or 2 & that’d really help him a lot. Anyway folks good talking to you all & get’n a place to post what I see & think about tebow that’s not complete wacko on one side or the other. Take care folks.
Sorry about some grammer & spelling I was on my phone sending that & in a hurry. Thanks much.
Completely agree w/your points, Jason. Thanks
No matter what, he can still get a win and that is ALL IMPORTANT IN ANY GAME PERIOD!!! EVERYONE HAS TO START SOMEWHERE AND HE HAS ALL THE QUALITIES TO BE THE BEST SO I AGREE W/BREES THAT EVERYONE NEEDS PATIENCE!! HE HAS OUTPERFORMED ROOKIES IN HIS FIRST YEAR ALREADY AND THAT INCLUDES SOME OF THE BEST QUARTERBACKS IN THE NFL WHEN THEY WERE NOT WHERE THEY NEEDED TO BE AT THAT TIME!!! THE POINT IS HE SHOULD BE TEBOW AND NOTHING LESS B/C HE ALWAYS FINDS A WAY TO SUCCEED!!! A GREAT QUARTERBACK SUCH AS HE IS CAN TAKE NOTHING PLAYS AND MAKE SOMETHING OUT OF THEM…TOO BAD ORTON LACKS THIS QUALITY AND THROWS AWAY PLAYS B/C HE CAN NOT HANDLE THE PRESSURE OF BEING IN THE RED ZONE AND POSSIBLY TAKING A RISK!!! NOT TOO MANY FANS WANT TO SEE ORTON DOING WHAT HE HAS ALWAYS DONE FOR YET ANOTHER YEAR; I.E., LOSING GAMES BY BEING A LACKLUSTER PLAYER!!! I KNOW I WOULDN’T THROW MONEY AWAY ON SEEING HIM PLAY!!! WOULD RATHER SEE A WINNER PLAY AND THAT IS TIM TEBOW B/C HE HAS ALL HIS CREDENTIALS IN PLACE!!! HANG IN THERE TIM AS WE KNOW YOU ARE ALWAYS GOING TO END UP ON TOP!!! GBX2/TEBOW/GATORS
We need to remember that making something out of a nothing play and learning to adapt to the NFL game, reading defensive schemes better, and learning to be more patient in the pocket are not mutually exclusive elections. They can all be part of the same process. The question seems to be how best to get that experience and learn these various skills–actual game experience (to include pre-season games) followed by watching film and training with the right coaches, would seem to make the most sense. It’s probable that Tebow will never have a ‘conventional’ skill set and the team that succeeds with him will also have to adapt to his unique qualities…even as he adapts to the NFL. It seems that those who most harshly criticize him would be the same crowd who would never have given unconventional QB’s Steve Young or Terry Bradshaw a shot.
I think an interview with Coach Fox after the game really said it all…he said that even though it wasn’t always pretty, he found a way to move the ball. He’s always going to be a hot button – just hope this staff gives him a chance to succeed..gosh knows the fans in town want to see someone with some spunk!!
Jason, I don’t know who you are or what your credentials are for predicting what should or should not be done with Tebow. But I can tell you one thing, there is no way on God’s earth the Gator Nation is going to ” forget about Tebow for a year or two.” I agree with some things you are saying but I think Timmy could be futher down the learning curve with other coaches. I do worry about not seeing the passion I have seen for all these years that I have watched this young man grow up. I watched the game on line last night and it was refreshing to see him playing with Fox on the sidelines trying to get him to let him go for a fourth and inches. Fox didn’t let him, but they were clearly having fun with each other. He drove Urban crazy on the sidelines when he was a freshman trying to get in the game. I just hope Fox sees Timmy for what he is and is sincere in his efforts to coach him into the starting QB- however long it takes. But NO, we won’t forget him, never because we believe he will succeed! Meanwhile, this week, GO GATORS, ya’ll.
Its just my views from watching & studing a whole lot of football & everything to do with the game & some other stuff as well. When I say forget him I mean that as no pushing for him to just be in the game no matter what, some of the best development QBs get is watching from the sidelines, every great QB in history will tell you that, the best in the NFL will tell you that watching for a while made them much better. The broncos want him to be great, who doesn’t want their players to be better & better.
The making something happen is fine but believe it or not it doesn’t really matter cause its true & fact & everyone in the NFL knows this. Its not always best to run around to make something happen becausein the NFL that doesn’t work most of the time. Remember in that game tim pushing for that extra yard got the ball striped out. No one says its not good to be able to run around & make something happen when you have to have it but every play is bad because you will not beat the odds because the defense is just to good & fast enough to stop that & wears you down. Just so much as massive scrambling done gets the heart pumping faster & if you throw the next down it will decrease accuracy. These things are true agree or not. In the NFL everyone has talent & you have to know when to go for it & when not to. They’re teaching him this.
He has great talent but he’s not there yet in what he does & he knows this from the coaches telling him this. His big fans don’t want to come true what they want & just put him in & let him do his thing, he’ll get beat to death try’n to do everything on every play like that. Not one person can you find in the NFL would tell you other wise, not one coach. You pick your battles in the NFL. It’d be like tebow having to face the alabama defense his last season at flordia for 16 straight weeks only difference is the worse NFL defense is twice as good & faster & bigger than the that defense was. Fox was telling him on the sideline to pick which plays you do your thing on. I don’t want the kid to get destroyed & if you just put him out there & say do what you did in college he will, no one on this planet could go thru that with being so banged up that they won’t do well near the end of the year. Its different & folks he’s see’n that himself. He’s gonna get it I have little doudt. Take care as always folks.
I’m not a person that hates tebow so please don’t take it as that. I have some friends that are huge tebow fans & they’re frustrated by what’s going on with it & come to find out that many tebow fans weren’t the biggest NFL fans. I don’t like how some in the media are acting about tebow but do understand why for some of them & how they had been put down by very hateful emails from some tebow supporters when they made remarks about his game when what they had said were very common knowledge things with pro football. I just wanna kinda brige a gap for people who have been big tebow fans for years but maybe not a NFL fan. Its not calling anyone anything bad, there’s no ill will meant on my part in anyway. College & pro football have some different things to them that if you really followed one & not the other it can seem frustrating to some people. That’s my sole intent by coming to this site & for my friends pointing some of these things out has really helped them to better understand the point behind why they are wanting him to do this & that different than in college.
So I hope any posts I make people on this site will take my intent into account. I’m not bias on any team or player, I just love football, its the only sport I ever watch or read about. I love college & pro the same & hope I can kinda throw out somethings that may help anyone who hasn’t been the biggest NFL fan until tebow came around. That’s my sole intent & nothing but that. All of you take care.
Jason, thanks for the reply. I am a long time Tebow fan and a Gator. I am a high school teacher and my students played Tebow in regionals and state tournaments when he was in high school. I,as you say, don’t want Timmy thrown to the wolves. I want him to be ready to play when he gets the chance because if he isn’t, it will only set him back further. As a fan, I don’t send hate mail to anyone regarding Tebow. I am very uncomfortable with the so called experts who totally trash him ( as in Hoge ). Timmy is not going to be a stereotypical QB. I don’t know enough about John Fox to know if he has the luxury of mentoring Timmy due to the needs of the Broncos in general. I do watch pro ball, mostly the Saints, since my family lives in Pensacola, Fl. I also follow and enjoy watching former Gators. I am a grandmother of two boys who have enjoyed time around Tebow in Gainesville. My husband taught me to love football 40 years ago when we got married. Anyway, that’s where I am coming from. Thanks again for your response.
