Tim Tebow’s Rookie Haircut

Rookie hazing has gone on since the beginning of sports. No one gets around it. Usually the veteran players will make the rookies carry their pads or stand up and sing a song in front of everybody during during. It’s all fun and games. One of the more recent ways vets get back at rookies is by giving them “unique” haircuts.

Lendale White posted this picture of Tim Tebow on his Twitter account. Even Superman isn’t immune to rookie hazing.

Don’t worry – I’m sure he’ll end up shaving it all off soon. You can’t do Nike commercials with a do like that!

Although Tim Tebow is a very accomplished athlete and a very much admired man, he is not God. I am disgusted that the haircut was done to resemble the “crown of thorns” and the haircut being called the “Jesus haircut”. I am apalled that people who are Christians would think this is cute. I rarely speak out about things such as this, but this disgusts me almost as much as there being a proposed mosque on the site of Ground Zero. What is this country coming to?

Although I can accept a certain level of hazing, it’s good sometimes to build comraderie, etc., I have to agree with Cindy’s comments on the haircut. If it was cut with the intent of making it a “crown of thorns”, it is totally distasteful and disgusting. It’s as if they are mocking Tim again for his christian beliefs. Thanks Tim for taking it on, you’re a bigger man than those who came up with such a ridiculous reason behind a hazing haircut. God bless!

it was done to resemble not the crown of thorns but the statue of liberty as long as the full information is researched then tim is behaving correctly by accepting it.

  5. statue says:

woops stated incorrectly. if an individual has come to the knowledge that it was done to resemble the statue of liberty not crown of thorns and amuses themselves about the haircut then that’s fine. fortunately tim has the humor to accept the haircut.

It is my opinion that it was done to make a mockery of his Christianity….a lot of Gator fans are referring to it as the Jesus Haircut. I am deeply saddened that people think that making a mockery of our Lord is funny or cute. I feel very sorry for them. Hopefully, Tim will be a good witness to the person(s) responsible for the haircut. Maybe I am reading too much into this, but the Lord has put it on my heart to at least bring this possibility to people’s attention.

I have also heard that it is making fun of Christianity. Timmy T. is representing us Christians well and is taking the joke well. He has said he is fine with it, and it was only meant as a bonding experience for the team

Most rookie hazing haircuts are random. For example, guys will just shave off strips of hair (as happened to Tebow’s roommate, Eric Decker) or shave off the hair on one side of their head, but leave the other side untouched (as happened to a Dallas player last week). It’s supposed to just be in fun & make them look goofy. Tim’s haircut doesn’t look like that. I don’t care how much it’s claimed by teammates this was meant to look like the Statue of Liberty, it doesn’t look nearly as much like that as it does a monk’s haircut or, as Cindy said, a crown of thorns.

The guy who was primarily responsible for giving Tebow the haircut, Wesley Woodyard, is a Kentucky alum. In 2008, the Gators stomped on Kentucky 63-5. WW wasn’t on that team, but he was on the 2007 Kentucky team that the Gators also beat & in which Tim pulled ahead of Woodyard’s teammate, Andre Woodson, in the Heisman race. Even the ESPN article about this haircut said Woodyard was ‘taking out some of his college frustrations with the razor’. To me, this looks like the Wildcat getting payback on the Gator who beat his school-& his teammate-by giving him a haircut that mocked his beliefs.

(This is one reason why I think hazing can be a bad idea. Many times teammates have played against each other in the past and hazing’s too much of an opportunity for revenge.)

I’m just glad Woodyard is a linebacker & not on the O-Line. I wouldn’t want him to be one of the guys who had to protect Tim.

Actually, it looks more like a tonsure…which has been used both in the Catholic, Buddhist, and Hindu faiths.

Is everyone here serious? It was done all in good fun. It’s a flipping haircut! Tim isn’t the only rookie in the country who got a bad haircut by his teammates. You religious zealots really need to come off your high horses and be a little less sensitive. Yes, it’s rookie hazing. No, they are not going to intentionally offend their teammate. As far as hazing goes, the NFL is pretty tame. NONE of you would make it in the military

i was going to say corn husk but thank you a
if anything it looks like a monk hairdo, the fact that it was done to him illustrates that he is living by example.

  12. Brooke says:

    From Fanhouse article about haircut:

Woodyard said Tebow was a good sport throughout the good-natured hazing and the rest of the team got a good laugh.

“He took it like a man,” Woodyard said. “He said, ‘Come on, Wood. Give me something good.’ So I said, ‘I got you. I got you.’”

no comment on remark made about Christians…just remember Tim is a Christian also like some of us!

So if God blesses quarterbacks with wins, then logically he must have blessed Ben Roethlisberger. What are the get blessed requirements, because I need a little extra help.
