Would You Change Tebow’s Throwing Motion

The focus of the Florida Gators and Tim Tebow this spring has been tweaking his throwing mechanics. It’s hard to imagine that a two-time national champion and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback would need help with his game… but to translate into an NFL quarterback, all the experts suggest Tim needs to work on his mechanics.

What Tim does right now is perfect for the college game. He’s a passing and running machine. He’s thrown for 6300+ yards and 67 touchdowns… and he rarely throws a touchdown. As much as I love Tebow, I can admit that he doesn’t throw the best spiral. He has great accuracy and the ball always gets where it’s supposed to go (Tim rarely throws an interception), it’s just that the ball wobbles on it’s way. Tim also throws the ball sidearm.

Gators quarterbacks coach Scott Loeffler has tweaked Tebow’s throwing motion, turning his sidearm delivery into an over-the-top motion. “It’s called adapting,” Florida coach Urban Meyer said. “It’s not a wholesale change, but I was concerned about it. I watched it closely. I’m always thinking, ‘If it’s not broken, don’t change it.’”

The Gators have also been working on Tim’s footwork… something he hasn’t had to worry too much about because he’s in the shotgun every play. “They said just to be myself and everything will be fine,” Tebow said. “They said not to change the things that make me who I am.”

Two things stick out in my mind that make me believe Tim will be a NFL quarterback. In the Alabama SEC Championship game he delivered a rocket pass down the sideline to Louis Murphy. Now that was an NFL throw. Another thing is the way he has stepped into the pocket to make throws. Good quarterbacks like Peyton Manning know they need to step into the pocket (even if it means they’ll meet a 320 pound DT head on) to make throws.

What do you think? Should Tim Tebow work on tweaking his throwing mechanics? Or do you like him the way he is?

I love Tim the way he is! He’s a great football player, but there is always room for improvement!! If these little improvements will make him a better QB than he already is, then why not!!! Maybe this will help him snag another Heisman Trophy or National Championship title!

I knew Tebow was going to be special when I first saw him play his freshman season. He has done about all that you can ask of him and accomplished about every goal as well.On the other hand the nfl isn’t like college probably why it isn’t as fun to watch.Tebow has a strong arm and has good accuracy, however he does throw a wobbly pass.He does need to learn to throw a prettier ball with more of a spiral.I love watching him run over people in college which brings up another point why he should improve his passing.Tebow isn’t going to run over everyone in the nfl like he has the last 3 years in college. But if he gets his passing and under center down he has everything else the attitude the leadership and etc that he needs to be a great nfl quaterback.guess I’ll have to start watching nfl football more after this year.
