The Florida Gators fell 31-30 to the Ole Miss Rebels in Gainesville on Saturday. It was a horrible display of offense (I’m talking to you Tim Tebow) and on defense (looking your way Major Wright). The only bright star was Percy Harvin, and even he fumbled the ball like 3 times.
“I’m sorry. Extremely sorry,” Tebow said. “We were looking for an undefeated season. That was my goal, something Florida’s never done here. But I promise you one thing: A lot of good will come out of this. You have never seen any player in the entire country play as hard as I will play the rest of the season, and you will never see someone push the rest of the team as hard as I will push everybody the rest of the season. You never see a team play harder than we will the rest of the season. God bless.”
The Gators had a chance to tie it up with like 3 minutes left, but they had an extra point blocked. Then they still had a chance to come down and score for the win, but were stuffed on a Tebow 4th and 1 run on the 31 yard line. That was the worst play call I’ve seen on season. The Gators run the spread for a reason and Ole Miss couldn’t stop it the entire second half. So why does Mullen call a bunch formation and have Tebow run for a first down out of the shotgun. If you’re going to run Tebow on 4th and 1, at least spread the offense out so he’s not going against 11 guys in the box. That’s basic football! I would have actually passed the ball on that 4th down play, or at least rolled Tim out.
It was a disappointing loss, and now the Gators are ranked 12th in the country (thank goodness 4 other top 10 teams lost). Tim Tebow’s stats may not look bad (24-38 for 319 yards plus 3 total touchdowns), but don’t let it fool you… he played like garbage. He was missing wide open receivers, fumbled the ball, and just generally making bad decisions.
I cannot believe Tebow played the way he did. It really disrupts the before blind faith I had in Florida to beat any team they come across. They really showed just how bad they can be on offense, despite all the new weaponry they supposedly have. Urban Meyer’s indifferent attitude the entire game was absolutely aggrevating, considering he gets fired up against teams he is having no trouble against, like Tennessee. He looked like he did not even care that the Gators were losing, then just looked a little mopey after the loss. Despite how sorry Tebow is, he has lost my faith until his team proves that I shouldnt feel that way. At this point, even if the Gators manage to pull their heads out of their asses and go to the SEC championship, Alabama (which I am pretty sure is going all the way this year, out of nowhere) is going to handle them, throwing the ball all over our confused secondary, and pummeling our mediocre offensive line. Dissapointment runs deep, Ole Miss isnt half a challenge compared to the later games of this season.
I think this is just a mental collapse, the Gators seem to be playing to the level of the competition it happens to great teams, and this is a great team! I think its just a lack of focus.Tim and The Gators need to get that fire back, and focus like a “starving animal” on its next prey.I would say based on Tim’s quote in this article He is going to unleash on teams like last year LOOK OUT!
i agree with joe. Mitch, you can lose your faith or whatever you’re doing but seriously, one loss is not the end of the world. They aren’t even in the same division or whatever it’s called.
Florida just lost focus and made stupid mistakes. Ole miss didn’t beat us, Urbans horrible playcalling and fumbles beat us.
We’ll be back, after what tebow said in that interview, I know we’ll be back. You all just wait. Florida just needed something to get them back on track and this was it.
Georgia… theres a storm coming and it’s name is Tim Tebow.
The lack of timing and run game really played a huge part in this loss. Theres so much talent on this FL offense that sometimes it gets in the way of concentration (chris rainey) and execution. This loss reminds me (in some very minute yet crucial ways) of UF’s win over OSU in the nat champ game in 06. There was WAYYYY too much burden on troy smith to create and lead the offense and as a result they lost (and shouldve lost more games that season). Unfortunately the same is happening here. Some of you FL fans are really putting too much of the teams success on Tebow. Even if the defense was having an off day (which they most certainly were) the way to stunt that is to keep the ole miss offense off the field by controlling the clock which they simply cant do w/o running tebow 20 times a game.
Nonetheless, though his numbers are decent, this is still only the beginning of a what will be a lackluster season for UF and Tebow, especially if he keeps taking the blame and putting more burden on his shoulders as evidenced by his end game quote.
It was just one game y’all! I’m glad you all’s expectations are high, but y’all don’t have to beat up on the guy.
There are more important things than football, and the things that are truly important Tim understands and focuses on.
However, I’m sure the team can do better than how they played Sat., and I think they understand that. Too bad they had to learn the hard way that they are not invincible.
shut up people, he is still amazing, he just had a off day. so what everybody does. and if you were a true Gator, you would still believe in him. I still do. so if any of you guys say that stuff again i bet you Timmy will be disappointed in yall. god
They lost one game in 06`, they went to the championships and WON!! So who should care about one little off game?Besides , He`s super Tebow for god`s sake! He ain`t gonna let one little game get in his way!!
I like Tim Tebow as much as anyone. He’s probably my favorite college player of all time. However I missed his promise after the ole miss game you guys keep talking about.I was at the arkansas game and the points don’t show it but they played like s***.I support them and hope they win out this season but if they play like that again there not going far.I think this team has the talent to beat anyone in the nation if they want to.It’s not just Tim Tebow but the whole team both sides of the ball. But as far as Tebow running in arkansas it looked like he didn’t even want to get a first down.He went down before he even got touched.I understand they don’t want him to get hurt, but if you’re gonna tebow it on 3rd/4th and short tebow it all the way not halfass.I enjoyed the game the only time I’ll ever get to see Tim Tebow in person, but was kinda disappointed he and the gators didn’t play better.
In hindsite, your article and comments look really stupid.
After all, he kept his promise
