Congratulations to Tim Tebow for winning the Heisman Award last night. Tebow became the first ever sophomore to win the Heisman, and only the 3rd Gator to win (Spurrier and Wuerffel are the other two). Of 887 votes tabulated on a 3-2-1 basis, Tebow received 1,957 points, well ahead of Arkansas tailback Darren McFadden (1,703).
Tebow was a little emotional when he was called out as the winner. He came up on stage and delivered an awesome acceptance speech. “I think it’s amazing that you’re known forever as a Heisman Trophy winner,” Tebow said. “That’s very special. It’s overwhelming. I’m kind of at a loss for words.”
I thought ESPN did a great job with the ceremony. The way it was structured and how everyone was talking about Tebow, you could just get a feeling that it was his night. The announcers were very uplifting and encouraging. They did a great job pumping up Tebow.
The question that comes up now is “How many Heismans will he win?”
EDIT: We have a Tim Tebow Heisman Picture on the Tebow Pictures Page.
As part of Gator-nation, I couldn’t be more proud. And to have Tim represent UF, you couldn’t find a better man. Tim talked about growing up looking towards Danny Wuerffel as his role model, and now my 2yr. old will have Tebow!! Way to go Tim!!
HERESY!!
Should have been McFadden’s to lose. Sophomores will never win it again. Heisman trust must strip Tebow of award this year.
Can’t spell “McFadden” without M-A-D-D-E-N
Trust must also strip Reggie Bush of award.
You’re right… no sophomore will ever win it again. Tebow is that special.
